If you love being “hands on,” enjoy supporting staff, and feel ready to take ownership for a home while still having guidance from an experienced management team, we would love to hear from you.

The role

  • Provide direction, guidance and support to Shift Leaders and Residential Support Workers
  • Model best practice, especially during challenging episodes with young people
  • Be part of the Safeguarding Team, ensuring concerns are reported, tracked and evidenced
  • Promote, track and evidence positive outcomes for children and young people

You will report to the Registered Manager & Head of Service and line manage Shift Leaders and the wider residential care team. You will be given structured support and development to help you transition from deputy or senior level into full house management responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and develop your team so they feel supported, valued and clear on expectations
  • Coordinate effective staff rotas to maintain safe staffing levels
  • Ensure supervisions and appraisals are regular, meaningful and of high quality
  • Deliver team meetings and debriefs so communication is strong and learning is continuous
  • Support key workers so they have the time, resources and guidance to do their role well
  • Take part in the on-call rota
  • At times, hold specific responsibility for waking night staff including meetings, supervisions and practice observations

2. Young people and safeguarding

  • Ensure safeguarding processes are fully met, evidenced and understood by your team
  • Oversee care plans and records, ensuring they are up-to-date, robust and person-centred
  • Make sure care is well represented in reviews and internal meetings
  • Maintain regular, positive contact with parents, guardians, social workers and placing authorities
  • Monitor the quality of recording and documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Actively consult with children and young people, making sure their voices shape life in the home

3. Home environment

  • Keep your homes homely, safe, clean and well-maintained
  • Report and follow up on maintenance issues promptly
  • Include young people in decisions about how their home looks and feels

4. Behaviour support and incidents

  • Oversee Physical Intervention (PI) records, consequences and incident reports, ensuring compliance and quality
  • Ensure staff and young people receive meaningful debriefs after incidents
  • Regularly review behaviour support plans

  • Can stay calm, compassionate and child-focused, even in challenging situations
  • Enjoy coaching, developing and bringing out the best in others
  • Are committed to high standards, regulatory compliance and reflective practice

You do not need years of experience as a House Manager. What matters is your resilience, values, willingness to learn and readiness to step up. We will provide the structure and support to help you succeed.
