Full job description

Grade/Salary: MGA £60,573 - £62,766 per annum

Advert Text

The London Borough of Merton is committed to delivering high-quality services that reflect the needs and ambitions of its residents. In line with our borough-wide strategy Building a Better Merton Together and our Live Well in Merton Adult Social Care Strategy, we are transforming Adult Social Care through the Live Well in Merton programme — a bold, resident-focused initiative aimed at improving outcomes, promoting independence, and embedding sustainable change.

As the Commissioning & Programme Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving this transformation. You will lead a small, agile team and work closely with senior leaders, frontline services, and corporate functions to identify challenges, co-design solutions, and implement improvements that make a real difference to residents’ lives.

This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strategic insight, operational agility, and a collaborative mindset. You will be responsible for shaping the programme, managing delivery against key milestones, and ensuring governance and accountability at every stage.

This is an 18 month fixed-term contract.

Social Care is special here, so come join the team

Come and work in a supportive environment at Merton Council, where you’ll do a social care role that matters in a place where you matter.

Our ‘social care roles/staff’ do important jobs, and we’re focused on looking after you so you can look after others.

Our people stay because we have a great culture, and staff tell us their colleagues are the best thing about working here.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has proven experience in programme leadership and transformation delivery, ideally in health or social care.
  • Brings strong strategic thinking, organisational skills, and the ability to manage complex programmes.
  • Communicates confidently and can influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Is passionate about public service improvement and committed to delivering better outcomes for residents.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Terry Clark, Director of Integrated Care, Commissioning & Assurance on terry.clark@merton.gov.uk
