Full job description

Marine Infrastructure & Subsea Engineering Specialist

Subsea Cables | Offshore Structures | Marine Geotechnics

Company: SensFish Ltd, Scotland, UK
Engagement: Part-time consultancy | Remote / Flexible
Duration: Initial 12–14-week project, with potential for longer-term collaboration

About SensFish

SensFish is a Scottish marine intelligence technology company combining satellite Earth Observation (EO), oceanographic data, artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to support environmental monitoring, risk assessment and operational decision-making across marine industries.

We are expanding our applications in marine infrastructure intelligence, including subsea cables, offshore wind, ports and other marine structures, with a focus on predictive environmental risk assessment and asset monitoring.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Marine Infrastructure & Subsea Engineering Specialist with expertise in subsea cable engineering, marine geotechnics, offshore structural engineering or marine asset integrity.

The specialist will support an upcoming research and feasibility project exploring how satellite, oceanographic, geospatial and engineering data can be integrated to identify, assess and potentially predict environmental and operational risks affecting subsea cables and marine infrastructure.

The role involves working alongside our EO, marine science, data engineering and predictive modelling teams to translate engineering requirements into practical monitoring indicators and intelligence applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on engineering risks affecting subsea cables and marine structures, including seabed instability, scour, erosion, cable exposure, sediment movement and structural vulnerability.
  • Identify relevant engineering, geotechnical, environmental and operational datasets for infrastructure risk assessment.
  • Support the development of risk indicators and methodologies for satellite-enabled monitoring of subsea infrastructure and offshore assets.
  • Contribute to preliminary geospatial risk mapping, hotspot identification and predictive monitoring concepts.
  • Assess the technical feasibility, limitations and potential operational value of integrating EO and environmental data into infrastructure monitoring workflows.
  • Advise on validation approaches, engineering requirements and opportunities for further technology development.
  • Contribute to technical recommendations and future research and commercial development roadmaps.

Required Expertise

  • Professional experience in one or more of the following:
  • Subsea cable engineering and installation.
  • Marine geotechnical or geophysical engineering.
  • Offshore or coastal structural engineering.
  • Subsea infrastructure and marine asset integrity.
  • Understanding of marine environmental and engineering risks, particularly seabed dynamics, scour, sediment transport, cable burial or structural stability.
  • Experience with offshore infrastructure projects, marine surveys, engineering assessments or asset monitoring.
  • Ability to translate engineering challenges into practical research questions, risk indicators and monitoring requirements.

Desirable Expertise

  • Experience with offshore wind foundations, subsea power or telecommunications cables, pipelines, ports or coastal infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with satellite Earth Observation, GIS, remote sensing or oceanographic modelling.
  • Experience in infrastructure monitoring, digital twins, predictive risk assessment or asset management.
  • Previous involvement in R&D, feasibility studies or technology innovation projects.

Engagement

This is a flexible, part-time consultancy opportunity requiring targeted specialist contributions rather than full-time involvement.

The initial engagement will support a 12–14-week research and feasibility project, with the potential to contribute to additional marine infrastructure projects and longer-term technology development.

We welcome applications from independent consultants, experienced industry professionals and applied researchers.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV or professional profile, a brief summary of relevant project experience, availability and indicative consultancy day rate.
