Full job description

Stirling Potatoes Ltd is a family-run potato growing and processing business based in Angus, producing high-quality potatoes and fresh potato products for major retailers and foodservice customers across Scotland and the UK.

We are looking for a reliable, hands on Mechanical Engineer to keep our potato washing, grading, packing and cooking operations running smoothly. This is a practical workshop floor role, ideal for someone who enjoys fault finding, fixing, improving and taking pride in keeping a busy food production site moving.

You will work closely with production teams to service, repair and maintain all mechanical plant and equipment across site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing site machinery
  • Breakdown response and fault-finding to minimise downtime
  • Working on potato washing, grading, packing, prep and cooking machines
  • Mechanical support for forklifts, conveyors and handling equipment
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Keeping accurate maintenance records
  • Managing and organising parts stock and spares
  • Supporting improvements to equipment reliability and site layout
  • Working closely with production teams to keep lines running
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and site safety

The Person

  • Mechanical maintenance experience (manufacturing, food, agriculture or industrial plant ideal)
  • Confident working on pumps, motors, bearings, chains, conveyors and hydraulics
  • Practical, organised and able to work on your own initiative
  • Comfortable working as part of a team in a fast paced production environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and pride in tidy, safe workmanship

Desirable but not essential:

  • Welding/fabrication experience
  • Forklift mechanical knowledge
  • Basic electrical awareness
