Full job description
Band 6 Specialist vestibular and paediatric audiologist - Manchester Royal Infirmary - Full-time, permanent post
We are looking for a dynamic audiologist/healthcare scientist to join our audiology team at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The Audiology department is unique in providing all hearing and balance services for adults and children under one management structure and within one hospital Trust. The department provides a number of specialist regional and supra-regional services including bone conduction hearing devices and cochlear implants. The service attracts complex cases from throughout the region and through our close working with ENT and other medical professions within the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. We have UKAS accreditation for adult, paediatric and balance services.
Successful candidates should have a BSc / PTP or STP in Audiology or equivalent levels of training, and an interest and experience working in assessment and rehabilitation both in vestibular and paediatric audiology. Further training will be provided as needed.
For informal enquiries please contact David Jay, Clinical lead for balance in audiology by email david.jay@mft.nhs.uk
The role is split between working in the vestibular and paediatric audiology teams.
The vestibular portion includes a mixture of vestibular assessment using vHIT, VNG, VEMPs, Calorics and non-routine tests such as rotatory chair and SVINT, as well as assessing and managing BPPV. It also includes routine vestibular rehabilitation for patients with vestibulopathies, vestibular migraine and PPPD.
The paediatric portion of the role involves working in hearing assessment and hearing aids in routine and complex paediatric patient groups, performing complex diagnostic tests of hearing, applying scientific knowledge in the evaluation of results and making specialist clinical decisions concerning the patient’s management
