Full job description

The Noose and Monkey are seeking a passionate and experienced Sous Chef to join our culinary team at our vibrant gastropub. As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to lead kitchen operations, develop creative menus, and ensure high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen with a love for elevated pub fare and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in the daily operation of the kitchen, including food preparation, inventory management, and ordering.
  • Oversee kitchen staff during service and ensure food is prepared to high quality and safety standards.
  • Contribute to menu development with innovative takes on classic pub dishes, using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and efficient team culture.
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared according to specifications and presentation standards.
  • Assist in scheduling, labor cost control, and minimizing food waste.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef, preferably in a gastropub or upscale casual dining environment.
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety practices.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Creative flair with a passion for modern comfort food and gastropub-style cuisine.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
