Equans is looking for a Technical Services Manager to join our team on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, bonus and benefits package.

The Technical Services Manager will be accountable for the delivery of technical maintenance, engineering and subcontract activity across our Birmingham Schools contracts, ensuring safe, quality and impactful service delivery to all. Providing leadership and strategy to ensure all hard services are delivered to an exceptional standard, in a compliant, cost effective and safe way.

What will you deliver?

  • Responsible for technical performance and standards across the Birmingham Schools PFI Schools
  • Set direction for the effective maintenance of the estate through continuous review and modification of the Planned Preventative Maintenance program, condition reviews and asset management for mechanical, electrical, building and grounds and gardens services
  • Manage and co-ordinate directly employed labour and sub-contractors in reacting to breakdowns and implementing the Planned Preventative Maintenance Systems
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory, regulatory and Company guidelines, where applicable
  • Provide technical assurance advice across the discipline of maintenance services to include complex electrical, mechanical and building service
  • Review and develop the quality of service at an operational level and Control expenditure as delegated by the Senior Account Manager
  • Undertake and participate in internal and external audits taking a lead in ensuring all findings are fully considered and an action plan followed to resolve issues where required
  • Develop, implement and monitor contingency plans in line with Business Continuity Plans, Major Incident Plans, Disaster Recovery Plans and other similar documents as required
  • Take a lead in developing and maintaining a strong health and safety culture
  • Be an active member of the operational Senior Leadership Team
  • Be prepared to undertake any relevant training in order to develop the post in line with changing needs of the service provision
  • Maintain records as appropriate, relevant plant and equipment for technical performance
  • Participate in management escalation Rota
  • Support lifecycle management and statutory compliance
  • Write RAMS, technical reports, and communicate technical information
  • Manage out-of-hours cover and annual PPM planning
  • Working closely with admin team and help desk to ensure all work is completed on CAFM system in line with all SLAs and KPI parameters and all associated reports are received
  • Responsible for the delivery of services to the highest standard, ensuring the effective management of staff, the provision of excellent customer service and compliance with contract, statutory compliance and company requirements
  • To work with the Contract Management to maintain Target Operating Model for required CPs, APs and RPs
  • To exercise financial and commercial controls in the management of expenditure and income within agreed budgets. To maximise profitability of operations and deliver ongoing cost savings
  • To manage all associated subcontracted services and to ensure that subcontractors are able to carry out their duties in a safe and timely manner and that work is contractually compliant. Complete all associated paperwork and conduct regular service review meetings
  • To lead and manage service delivery and customer contact, to ensure the provision of highest impressions of quality, customer care, proactivity and professionalism to our customer/clients and staff
  • To fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements of the Company's Health & Safety Policy and Health & Safety Management Plans

Who are we looking for?

  • Previous experience in a supervisory role in hard services
  • Experience in people management, subcontractor oversight, and compliance
  • Strong IT, communication, and customer service skills
  • IOSH Working Safely certification
  • Familiarity with asset management, CAFM systems, and lifecycle planning
  • Budget management and cost-effective solution delivery

This role includes a DBS Enhanced check therefore ability to pass is essential.
