Job Purpose:
We’re on a journey to transform how our engineers build, deploy, and run software. Our estate spans the full spectrum, from modern cloud-native platforms to long-standing legacy systems. This is a new role focused on building the foundations that make delivery faster, safer, and more enjoyable.

As our Principal Platform Engineer, you’ll be a hands-on technical leader who shapes strategy, sets standards, and works directly with teams. You’ll design and build self-service platforms, improve developer experience, and guide the shift to modern cloud practices. Just as important, you’ll coach engineers and leaders, helping them raise their game and get the most out of the platforms we create.

Job Overview:
Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and deliver scalable, secure platforms across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Lead our implementation of tools like Terraform to standardise infrastructure as code across teams and environments.
  • Build intuitive self-service capabilities that make developers’ lives easier.
  • Modernise legacy workloads while enabling adoption of cloud-native practices.
  • Mentor engineers and influence technical leaders across the organisation.
  • Drive improvements in speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency.

Skills & Experience

  • Deep hands-on expertise in one major cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with working knowledge of others.
  • Strong background in Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability.
  • A track record of delivering developer platforms and self-service tools adopted at scale.
  • The ability to move seamlessly between strategy and hands-on engineering.
  • A passion for coaching, enablement, and building great developer experiences.
