We have the perfect job for you in one of our vehicle and plant workshops. You will join mechanics and supervisors, based at the Marsh Lane Workshop, Lymington. As a skilled HGV Mechanic in our expanding, in-house workshop facilities, the work will be varied.

Love problem solving and ensuring quality work?

This role is right up your street as it requires you to have varied skills to undertake routine servicing and maintenance, diagnosing faults on vehicles and plant and undertaking quality repairs. You will have the right industry recognised qualifications, served apprenticeship, with practical knowledge and experience working with a wide range of HGV’s, LCV’s, and plant, providing key services for the local community and businesses.

You will be an enthusiastic mechanic, a team player, with good communication skills and have a wide range of mechanical skills including welding, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. Having experience in computerised diagnostic systems such as Texa, Jaltest or systems of a similar nature and the ability to trace and rectify intermittent and complex electronic faults as well as resolving other problems by designing and fabricating components to enable repairs to take place is important to us.

Your skills, Knowledge and development are important

You will have good general education and completed a time served apprenticeship and/or be trained to City and Guilds Mechanics Certificate, IMI or B Tec equivalent. Substantial experience in vehicle or plant repairs and maintenance is essential.

A valid driving license is required and preferably hold an HGV license and driver CPC certification. (HGV and CPC training will be provided if you are the right person).

At NFDC we believe that all our employees make a valuable contribution to the work of the Council and that’s why we encourage a trusting and open culture where each employee is supported and respected equally, where ideas are actively sought and self-development promoted, with training encouraged as the industry changes.

What’s in it for you?

  • £35,646 - £39,469 per annum (up to £42,429 including market supplement)
  • 25-26 days annual leave plus an additional 5 days for 5 years’ continuous service
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • On-site parking
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores, and restaurants
  • Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40% on cycles and accessories
