Freelance HR & Operations Administrator
£15 - £17 an hour

Full job description

Location: Primarily remote, with occasional co-working in East London or Essex (once or twice a month)

Pay: £15 per hour initially, with the opportunity to increase to £17 per hour following a successful review period of 12 weeks

About the Role

I run a growing, founder-led HR consultancy supporting people-first small businesses, and I am looking for a reliable freelance HR & Operations Assistant to support both client work and internal operations.

This is a flexible part-time freelance role, ideal for someone with solid HR admin experience who is proactive, organised, and looking to progress towards an HR Advisor role within the next 6 to 12 months.

You will support first-level HR activity, manage documentation and trackers, and help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. As trust and capability grow, there will be opportunities to take on more responsibility.

You will be working closely with me as the Founder. This is not a corporate environment and not a large team. If you prefer fixed hours, heavy supervision, or a highly structured organisation, this role may not be the right fit.

Key Responsibilities

1. Respond to and escalate first-level HR queries

2. Support onboarding and pre-employment checks (right to work, DBS, references)

3. Issue contracts and HR letters, maintain HR files and trackers

4. Format and manage HR documents and templates for client use

5. Liaise with clients by email and attend occasional online or in-person meetings

6. Support general operations across Sleek HR and client accounts

About You

1. You have experience in HR administration, recruitment, or people operations
2. You have strong admin skills and pay close attention to detail
3. You are confident using Google Drive, email, and spreadsheets
4. You are self-motivated, organised, and able to meet deadlines without chasing
5. You are comfortable juggling different clients and tasks
6. You understand when to escalate rather than make assumptions
7. You value confidentiality and professionalism
8. You are based in or near East London or Essex and able to co-work occasionally

Quality and Ways of Working

Accuracy and consistency matter. You will be expected to follow Sleek HR templates, processes, and instructions, and to ask questions early if something is unclear. Freelance flexibility does not mean low accountability.

Why Work With Sleek HR

1. Exposure to a range of clients and sectors
2. Flexible working that fits around your life or other freelance work
3. Direct access to a Founder who trusts you to get on with the job
4. A collaborative, inclusive, no-drama working style
5. Opportunity to grow towards an HR Advisor level as the business scales

Important Notes

1. This is a freelance role. You are responsible for your own tax and compliance.
2. Hours will vary week to week depending on workload and client needs.
3. This is not a full-time role, however available work will be offered to you as priority.
4. Please do not visit our registered office, it is not a working location.

This Role Is Not For You If...

1. You require fixed or guaranteed hours
2. You need daily supervision or step-by-step instruction
3. You prefer working as part of a large internal HR team

Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: £15.00-£17.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexitime
  • Work from home

Application question(s):

  • In 3 short bullet points, please tell me why you’re a great fit for this role.
  • What skills or experience are you most keen to build over the next 6 to 12 months, and why?
  • Where do you see your HR career heading over the next 12 months?
  • Are you currently working freelance or alongside other work? If yes, roughly how many hours a week do you have available?
  • Are you able to co-work in London/Essex up to twice a month?

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)

Work Location: Remote
