Full job description
As a junior sister/ charge nurse you will be required to have well developed triage skills and experience coordinating different areas of the emergency department including the resuscitation areas.
As well as an 8 bedded resuscitation area, our department has a co-located Urgent Care Centre, a children’s Emergency Department, CDU and SDEC service.
We are also a Trauma Unit receiving trauma patients from across Hertfordshire and North London. We provide our own accredited emergence care course both adults and children’s. Adult nurses have the opportunity to attend both courses. Both courses include level 1 trauma and can be taken at both degree and masters levels.
We recognise that training and development opportunities are vital for a happy and competent workforce. This is why we have an ED specific Clinical Practice Education (CPE) team dedicated to the development of our nurses to support a modern career framework. You will be supported every step of the way by our senior nurses, the CPE team and your colleagues.
We offer a variety of development opportunities which include, but are not limited to:
Protected Supernumerary period
University Accredited Emergency Care Course (in both Adults & Paediatrics)
Advanced Life Support (ALS) and/or Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS)
Advanced Trauma Life Support / ATNC
Support with completing the Level 1 RCN National Curriculum and Competency Framework for Emergency Nursing competencies.
As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be required to support the senior and junior team in ensuring the needs of our patients are met through the delivery of high quality care. The role involves working as part of a large multidisciplinary team including the ED medical team, clinical practice educators safeguarding, mental health liaison team and clinical specialties. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse works clinically including unsocial hours and will be expected to work competently in all areas of the Emergency Department as well as being able to independently take charge of them.
The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will assist their Team leader with managing their own team of nurses and ensuring they meet their potential.
As a band 6 Junior sister charge nurse in our busy Emergency Department, you will have the opportunity to work in all areas including children’s ED to increase your skill set and competency.
You will be activity involved in retention and recruitment. You will also be responsible for link roles giving you the opportunity to drive change and improve standards.
In Barnet Emergency Department, we are passionate about providing Gold standard care for both patients and their families. We also pride ourselves in providing a positive working environment for our staff, valuing the importance of staff wellbeing and civility in the workplace.
In order to achieve this we are looking for compassionate, enthusiastic and motivated Nurses. Whether you are an experienced band 6 nurse or you are ready to progress your career, we can support you on your journey in our Emergency Department. To support you, we offer a Band 6 Development programme and an accredited Leadership course to consolidate your management skills. We also offer a tailored supernumerary induction programme.
We are also in the process of expanding our busy unit with a redevelopment programme across ED UTC and children’s ED.
In order to maintain a healthy work/life balance, self rostering is available and therefore you can choose your shifts. We also offer part-time positions and flexible working.
