Please note : Pro rata Salary for 37 hours across 43 working weeks is £27251.39 up to £35,098.16
(Full Time Salary if were working 37 hours / 52 weeks is £28,398.24 up to £36,575.24)

To manage a personal caseload and work as part of a team of speech and language therapists and therapy assistants. You will have the responsibility, as a member of the team to develop the provision of an efficient and effective speech and language therapy service to the learners at Queen Alexandra College.

Duties and Key Areas of Responsibility
Clinical Responsibilities
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a caseload of learners and organise this
  • effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and resources of staff
  • and time and to ensure that this is the case across the team.
  • To provide clinical assessment for learners with a range of
  • conditions/disabilities and complex social and functional needs
  • To provide appropriate direct and indirect interventions and strategies for
  • learners
  • To provide support to academic staff and relevant stakeholders to maximise the
  • communication environment for students
  • To actively participate in departmental in-service training programmes by
  • attending and delivering presentations, tutorials, individual training sessions,
  • peer review, external courses and professional clinical interest groups.
  • To facilitate through personal attendance or through the team, speech and
  • language therapy representation at relevant MDT meetings to ensure the
  • delivery of a co-ordinated multidisciplinary service and to integrate speech and
  • language therapy recommendations into the overall college programme. This
  • will include positive behaviour meetings, transition reviews and other
  • appointments as required.
  • To ensure that learner records are kept to a level that satisfies clinical standards
  • and that meet the needs of the college.
  • In coordination with the relevant college staff to follow the dysphagia referral
  • and support process.
  • To perform other duties as are commensurate with the status and nature of the
  • post.
  • To promote the college values of enabling, collaboration, respect, integrity,
  • excellence and inclusion and lead by example at all times.
Departmental Responsibilities
  • To work as part of a team both within the Speech and Language Therapy
  • Department and within the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team including the
  • Behaviour Team and Class staff.
  • To participate in regular departmental meetings.
  • To enable and oversee with the team the quality review of the service and to
adapt practice and provision as needed.
Professional Development
To maintain personal development through use of off-site and in-house training, contact and involvement with relevant special interest groups, attendance of in-service training, and review of literature as required to complete the CPD required by the RCSLT.
Personal Development
  • Participate in learning and development activity relevant to performance in the post or to the College as a whole
Other Duties
  • Undertake any other duties not listed above that are commensurate with the role, as directed by Senior Managers

Queen Alexandra Charity (QAC) provides education, residential support, community services and enterprises in support of young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Education is provided through a national residential College that supports a diverse range of student/client abilities and needs. Our College provides education, training, routes to independent living and employment through an innovative, holistic approach to learning and support. It offers a vibrant, varied and fun educational experience for both residential and day students. Our curriculum aims to maximise adult life, independence and work opportunities for all students. Class sizes are small and support levels high.

We have educational and learning sites based in Birmingham, one of Europe’s most welcoming and vibrant cities, with a rich and diverse culture. Our main site is based in Harborne, a pleasant leafy Birmingham suburb, on a friendly and green 8-acre campus with excellent facilities and resources. Clients within our Residential Services programme still require support and the aim is to deliver a service that provides them with the means to live independently/semi independently into the future. Many clients are either in education, voluntary work or paid employment not linked to QAC directly.

Our Community Services based at our Umberslade Campus in Stirchley include a supporter worker service, women's group, men's group, LGBTQ plus group, Saturday Socials, The Night Owl Experience (disability friendly night club visit in Birmingham City Centre).
All students, clients and staff are supported within safe and well-resourced environments.
