Full job description
Interviews for this role will be face to face only.
The Amputee Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is an established 12 bedded unit, located at the Lambeth Community Care Centre, Kennington. The essence of the ARU model of care is to provide specialist rehabilitation for people who have undergone major amputation. Therapy is delivered over 5 days to maximise patient outcomes and goal attainment over approximately 6 weeks.
The ARU brings together the essential elements of evidence based post-operative amputee care in an appropriately staffed and equipped specialist unit. Such elements include access to specialist medical, nursing, therapy, prosthetics and counselling professionals in amputee care. This facilitates early mobilisation, prosthetic provision and psychological care within a dedicated and intensive rehabilitation setting.
The post holder will carry out assigned therapy and rehabilitation tasks as part of the flexible ARU multi-disciplinary therapy team. The will ensure high standards of personal, therapy and rehabilitation care to patients by primarily assisting the ARU therapists in assessing patients and following care plans. Some aspects of care provision will be conducted without direct supervision.
The post holder will work with both occupational therapists and physiotherapists and carry out tasks across the disciplines.
The post holder will work closely with our rehabilitation nurses encouraging function and physical activity on the ward.
The post holder will also have non clinical tasks such as stock checks, ordering equipment, equipment maintenance and audits and must be proficient is the use of EPIC.
The Amputee Rehabilitation Unit forms part of the South East London Amputee Rehabilitation Pathway. It is sandwiched by the Acute Vascular and Amputee Hub at the acute site of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and Bowley Close Outpatient Amputee Rehabilitation Hub for life long outpatient care.
We pride ourselves on offering world class evidenced based care for amputees, and are privileged to offer a unique additional step in the amputee pathway ; intensive inpatient rehabilitation.
This is a high profile service which aims to go above and beyond usual care.
