Role Overview

The Visual Observer / Drone Pilot Assistant will support licensed drone pilots during operational deployments across Ireland and European project locations. The position is field-based and requires disciplined situational awareness, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to assist with logistics, equipment handling, and data management. This role is suited to individuals who are methodical, comfortable working outdoors, and interested in progressing toward full UAV flight operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain uninterrupted visual line of sight (VLOS) with the aircraft during operations and relay situational awareness updates to the Pilot in Command
  • Monitor airspace, ground risks, third-party encroachment, weather conditions, and potential hazards
  • Assist with site setup, pre-flight planning, safety briefings, and regulatory checklists
  • Support equipment assembly, battery management, payload installation, and post-flight processing
  • Participate in risk assessments, method statements, and on-site compliance with aviation and health-and-safety requirements
  • Document flight conditions, observations, and operational notes to support project reporting
  • Assist with basic data handling (imagery, video, and sensor outputs)
  • Collaborate with pilots, project managers, and client stakeholders to facilitate safe and efficient mission execution

Experience Profile

  • Experience working outdoors or in field-based technical assignments (preferred)
  • Strong observation and communication skills; able to issue clear, concise instructions
  • Organised and reliable, with strong situational awareness and attention to detail
  • Basic technical competence and willingness to learn UAV systems and data workflows
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Requirements

  • Full clean driving licence
  • Fluent English
  • Comfortable with overnight stays in remote project locations

Desirable Attributes

  • Previous experience supporting drone operations, surveying, inspection, or H&S site roles
  • Interest in progressing toward CAA drone pilot qualifications
  • GWO First Aid, Manual handling and Fire awareness Qualified is a desired advantage
