Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Mental Health Nurse to join our dedicated healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive mental health care, support patient recovery, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in various clinical settings. Must have work experience in paediatrics and emergency. This role requires a strong foundation in psychiatric nursing, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations, including those with developmental disabilities, dementia, or in acute crisis. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner is preferred, along with familiarity in specialized areas like trauma medicine, behavioral health, and hospice & palliative care. The Registered Mental Health Nurse will play a vital role in delivering patient-centered care that adheres to HIPAA regulations and quality standards such as NCQA.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including vital signs, patient history, and behavioral observations.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians, therapists, and case managers.
  • Administer medications including injections and IV infusions following aseptic technique protocols.
  • Monitor patients’ physical and mental status during treatment, managing acute pain or psychiatric crises as needed.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions for patients with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or behavioral health conditions.
  • Assist with medical procedures such as suturing, catheterization, tube feeding, and wound care when necessary.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Educate patients and families on medication management, health coaching, discharge planning, and community resources.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care delivery across settings including inpatient units, outpatient clinics, home & community care environments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards and infection control protocols.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and diagnostic evaluation procedures.

Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license with specialization or experience in mental health nursing required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations such as geriatrics (memory care), pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), or behavioral health patients preferred.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications administration including injections and IV infusions.
  • Familiarity with trauma medicine (Level I & II Trauma Centers), critical care environments (ICU/CCU), emergency medicine protocols including airway management and ventilator support.
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities or in hospice & palliative medicine is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations, laboratory specimen collection/processing, phlebotomy, and sterile processing procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care environments.
