Full job description

About us

My Probate Partner is a new type of online service helping people through estate administration in Scotland. We offer a middle ground between doing it yourself and hiring a law firm. We give executors the support and guidance they need to stay in control and get the process 100% right, without the high cost of a traditional firm.

We take real pride in giving a first-class experience, and our customers love what we do. Check out our Trustpilot reviews: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.myprobatepartner.co.uk

The role

We're looking for an experienced executry practitioner to run their own caseload and to be the first person many new clients speak to. On onboarding calls you'll find out what the estate involves, confirm whether it is excepted, spot any complications, and recommend the right service. You'll be involved with creating and checking Confirmation and IHT applications, and supporting clients remotely by email and phone.

Responsibilities

  • Running your own caseload of Confirmation cases
  • Taking client onboarding calls: gathering estate details, assessing whether the estate is excepted, flagging risks and recommending the right service (script provided)
  • Checking and completing C1 forms and IHT forms
  • Drafting DoARs, DoVs and Initial Writs
  • Providing email support and callbacks to clients
  • Giving technical feedback to other case managers

Skills and experience

  • 10+ years of executry administration in Scotland
  • A complete understanding of the excepted estate rules, including low value and exempt estates, the limits on gifts, trust assets and foreign assets, and knowing when a full IHT400 is needed instead
  • Confident on the phone with bereaved clients: able to ask the right questions and explain things in plain language
  • High degree of competence with MS Word and Excel
  • Adaptable to new software (full training provided)
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple cases and prioritise deadlines

This job description is not exhaustive and other responsibilities may be added as needed.

How you'll work

There are no fixed hours or location. Work to suit your schedule from the comfort of your home (or a beach in Thailand). Client calls and callbacks should be done between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (UK time). The job ad says you must be resident in Scotland but that's only for the job ad targeting.

How to apply

In your covering letter or email, address it to me (Mike), and briefly tell me about a complicated Confirmation you dealt with.

Please note: we are not a regulated law firm.

Pay: £25.00-£35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 35.0 per week

Application question(s):

  • For how many years have you worked in Scottish law firms?

Work Location: Remote
