Full job description

Secondary Alternative Provision
Location: Liverpool, L4
Contract: Fulltime - Term Time Only
Salary: £495 - £505 per week based on a 7 hour day
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking a resilient, committed graduate to join our team within a secondary Alternative Provision setting. This is a demanding but highly rewarding role, suited to individuals who are passionate about supporting young people who have experienced significant barriers to education.

Our students often present with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), behavioural challenges, and complex personal circumstances. Many have faced exclusion, trauma, or disrupted schooling. As a result, this role requires patience, emotional strength, and the ability to remain calm, consistent, and reflective in challenging situations.

No formal teaching qualifications are required. Full training, guidance, and ongoing support will be provided.

This role would suit a confident, resilient graduate who enjoys building positive relationships with young people and can provide a calm, consistent presence within the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent one-to-one and small group support for students
  • Support learning, behaviour regulation, and emotional wellbeing
  • Help students re-engage with education and build positive routines
  • De-escalate challenging behaviour using restorative and trauma-informed approaches
  • Act as a positive role model and trusted adult
  • Support classroom learning and structured interventions
  • Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate

  • A graduate with a genuine interest in education, youth work, psychology, or mental health
  • Highly resilient, calm under pressure, and emotionally aware
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries while building strong relationships
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a firm but fair manner
  • Reflective, patient, and solution-focused
  • Committed to consistency, structure, and high expectations

What We Offer

  • Full induction and specialist training in behaviour support and trauma-informed practice
  • A supportive, experienced team who value collaboration and staff wellbeing
  • Meaningful experience working with vulnerable young people
  • Opportunities to develop skills for careers in education, psychology, social work, or youth justice
  • A role where your presence can have a life-changing impact

Important Information

This role can be emotionally and physically demanding. Progress may be gradual, and setbacks are part of the journey. However, for the right candidate, the rewards of seeing students re-engage, regulate, and succeed are significant.

Safeguarding Statement

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
