Apodi is looking for an experienced, confident and compassionate Phlebotomist to support a specialist Patient Support Programme for patients receiving treatment for ovarian cancer.

Working within the community, you will play an important part in supporting patients through the programme by undertaking phlebotomy, predominantly within patients’ homes, while ensuring they receive a professional, reassuring and patient-focused experience.

This role would suit an experienced Phlebotomist who is comfortable working autonomously, travelling within an agreed geographical area and delivering high-quality care directly to patients.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out home-based phlebotomy visits for patients enrolled on the Patient Support Programme.
  • Accurately labelling and handling blood samples.
  • Providing a professional, compassionate and reassuring experience for patients.
  • Ensuring all patient information and clinical documentation is recorded accurately and promptly.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality, dignity, equality and respect at all times.
  • Working within agreed clinical protocols, SOPs and CQC policies.
  • Recognising and appropriately escalating/reporting adverse events in accordance with the agreed programme protocol.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider clinical team and relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Managing your workload effectively while travelling to patients within your designated area.
  • Maintaining high standards of patient safety throughout every interaction

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who combines excellent practical phlebotomy skills with a genuinely patient-focused approach.

You will ideally be:

  • An experienced and confident Phlebotomist with recent practical experience.
  • Comfortable delivering care independently within patients’ homes.
  • Passionate about providing a high standard of patient care.
  • Confident working autonomously while remaining part of a wider clinical team.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage appointments and travel effectively.
  • An excellent communicator who can engage professionally and sensitively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Comfortable using technology including Microsoft Teams, email and relevant databases.
  • Flexible, proactive and able to work effectively in a changing healthcare environment.

Experience within oncology

Previous experience of working with oncology patients would be particularly advantageous due to the patient group you will be supporting.

The wider programme supports patients with ovarian cancer, and the underlying role specification places a strong emphasis on patient safety, specialist oncology care and working effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

You will also need

  • A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
  • The ability and willingness to travel to patients’ homes within your allocated geographical area.

You will become an important part of a specialist Patient Support Programme, helping patients receive required monitoring in the convenience of their own home while providing the dignity, respect, compassion and quality of care that are central to the service.
