Assistant Contracts Manager (Fire)

Location: Brentwood
Reports To: Managing Director / Fire Contracts Manager
Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 + Benefits + Vehicle/Allowance
Type: Full-Time / Permanent

The Wiggett Group is a leading provider of property services across the social housing and commercial sectors. We specialise in fire safety, security systems, building services, and compliance, maintaining high standards across all contracts.

As part of our continued growth, we are looking to upskill and develop an internal team member into an Assistant Contracts Manager (Fire). This role is designed for someone with strong operational understanding who is ready to progress into contract management, with structured support, training, and hands-on mentoring.

Role Purpose

The Assistant Contracts Manager will support the Fire Contracts Manager in the operational delivery of fire safety projects and maintenance contracts (fire alarms, emergency lighting, and compliance works).

This role is aimed at developing the individual into a future Contracts Manager, gradually taking on more responsibility in planning, contract management, client communication, and commercial oversight as their experience grows.

Key ResponsibilitiesContract & Project Support

  • Assist in the day-to-day coordination of fire safety contracts.
  • Help plan, schedule, and monitor workloads to support efficient delivery.
  • Ensure all works adhere to relevant standards (BS 5839, BS 5266, Fire Safety Order 2005).
  • Support with managing engineers, subcontractors, materials, and equipment.

Commercial & Financial Awareness

  • Assist with reviewing project budgets, variations, valuations, and profitability.
  • Support procurement and subcontractor management processes.
  • Prepare information/reports for senior management as required.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attend client meetings with the Contracts Manager to gain commercial and operational exposure.
  • Help maintain strong client relationships, ensuring smooth communication and high service levels.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Support quality checks, audits, and site inspections.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and compliance records.
  • Ensure company and statutory compliance is upheld across all works.

Health & Safety

  • Assist in promoting safe systems of work and compliance with H&S legislation.
  • Encourage a strong H&S culture within engineering teams.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Support engineers with day-to-day queries and coordination.
  • Contribute to staff development, onboarding, and training processes.
  • Gain experience in leading teams with a view to taking full contract ownership in the future.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience within fire safety, electrical, or compliance-based environments (internal operational knowledge advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of fire systems (fire alarms, emergency lighting, AOVs, etc.) — or willingness to develop further through training.
  • Good organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients and engineers.
  • Commercial awareness or a desire to develop in financial/commercial management.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and support multiple contracts.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).

Qualifications (Desirable but Not Essential)

  • FIA / NSI / BAFE accreditations
  • SSSTS / SMSTS
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualifications
