Job Purpose

The Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Positive Behaviour Support across The Care and Support Group. Working collaboratively with operational managers, support teams, families and external professionals, the PBS Lead will ensure that people receiving support experience high-quality, person-centred care which promotes independence, choice and an improved quality of life.

The post holder will lead on embedding Positive Behaviour Support as a core approach throughout the organisation, ensuring that staff understand behaviour as a form of communication and are equipped to provide proactive, consistent and compassionate support.

The PBS Lead will champion best practice, reduce the use of restrictive interventions and ensure the organisation remains compliant with current legislation, national guidance and CQC expectations.

Key Responsibilities

The PBS Lead will undertake comprehensive functional behaviour assessments and develop high-quality Positive Behaviour Support plans that are tailored to each individual's needs, strengths and aspirations. They will regularly review these plans to ensure they remain effective and reflect any changes in the person's circumstances, working closely with families, advocates and multidisciplinary professionals throughout the process.

A key aspect of the role is providing leadership and guidance to Registered Managers, Team Leaders and frontline staff. The PBS Lead will coach and mentor colleagues, helping them build confidence in managing complex situations while promoting a consistent, evidence-based approach across all services. They will encourage reflective practice, support teams following significant incidents and help identify opportunities to improve outcomes for the people we support.

The post holder will work closely with operational managers to monitor behavioural trends, review incidents and identify themes that may indicate the need for changes in practice or additional support. They will provide professional advice during safeguarding enquiries, assist with complex care planning and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings where specialist behavioural knowledge is required.

The PBS Lead will play an important role in quality assurance by auditing Positive Behaviour Support documentation, reviewing restrictive practices and monitoring compliance with organisational policies and regulatory requirements. They will analyse data to identify trends, measure outcomes and provide regular reports to senior management, making recommendations that support continuous service improvement.

Training and workforce development will form a significant part of the role. The PBS Lead will design and deliver engaging training programmes, workshops and practical coaching sessions to ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and confidence to implement Positive Behaviour Support effectively. They will also assess staff competency and contribute to the ongoing professional development of managers and support workers across CSG.

Working in partnership with external agencies, the PBS Lead will establish positive relationships with Community Learning Disability Teams, psychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, commissioners, safeguarding professionals and the Care Quality Commission where appropriate. They will represent the organisation professionally and contribute specialist expertise during reviews, inspections and service development initiatives.

General Responsibilities

The PBS Lead will maintain accurate and confidential records, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and participate in regular supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development. The role requires regular travel between services and the flexibility to respond to emerging operational priorities where specialist behavioural support is required.

Essential Requirements

· Level 6 qualification in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or related discipline.

· Strong knowledge and experience of PBS principles, functional behaviour assessments and PBS plans.

· Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs and behaviours of concern.

· Experience coaching and supporting staff teams to implement PBS approaches.

· Ability to work collaboratively with families, professionals and multidisciplinary teams.

· Strong communication, report writing and organisational skills.

· Knowledge of safeguarding, restrictive practices, CQC expectations and person-centred care.

Desirable Requirements

· Experience within supported living, domiciliary care or community-based services.

· Experience auditing PBS plans, incidents and care documentation.

· Experience delivering PBS training and workshops.

· Experience working with external professionals such as CLDTs, psychologists and commissioners.
