Full job description

Software Tester
Newcastle upon Tyne
£35,000 - £40,000 + Hybrid Working + Excellent Company Benefits

Excellent opportunity for a Software Tester with manual testing experience to join a growing internal development team within a major national organisation.

This is a brilliant opportunity to become part of a business that is investing in its internal systems and technology capability. You will test a varied portfolio of web applications, Windows applications and business reports, rather than being restricted to one product or technology.

Working closely with developers and business stakeholders, you will review requirements, create and execute manual test cases and identify defects before software changes are released. You will work within an agile environment and support regular sprint cycles, regression testing and ongoing improvements to testing standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience manually testing web-based and Windows or desktop applications. You will be methodical, detail-focused and confident documenting defects and communicating with both technical teams and business users.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their testing career within a stable, highly successful organisation, while gaining exposure to a broad range of applications, teams and business processes.

The Role:

  • Reviewing user stories, change requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Creating and executing manual test cases
  • Testing web applications, Windows applications and system reports
  • Completing functional, regression, smoke and exploratory testing
  • Identifying, documenting and tracking software defects
  • Working closely with developers to support defect resolution
  • Retesting fixes and validating completed changes
  • Supporting testing activity throughout agile sprint cycles
  • Maintaining test documentation, results and quality records
  • Helping improve testing processes and quality standards
  • Four days per week based in the Newcastle office, with one day working from home
  • Some travel to development sites and regional offices

The Person:

  • Previous experience in manual software testing
  • Experience testing web-based applications
  • Experience testing Windows or desktop applications
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles and agile methodologies
  • Ability to write clear, structured test cases
  • Experience documenting and communicating defects
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Jira or similar tools would be advantageous
  • Basic knowledge of databases, data validation or report testing would be beneficial
  • Any knowledge of a programming or scripting language would be advantageous
