Full job description

Harper UK is a well-established and growing fabrication and engineering business serving customers across a range of industrial sectors. As we continue to develop our people, processes and standards, we are looking to appoint an experienced and driven QHSE Manager to join our management team.

This is a key role with a strong focus on occupational health and safety, while also overseeing our quality and environmental management systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance, supporting operational excellence and driving continuous improvement across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated QHSE professional who enjoys being visible within operations, influencing positive change and working collaboratively with managers and employees at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve the company's Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental management systems.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through coaching, engagement and visible leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety, environmental and quality legislation and industry standards.
  • Manage and maintain ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems, including audits and certification activities.
  • Develop, review and implement policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Monitor QHSE performance and provide regular reporting and recommendations to the management team.
  • Support managers and supervisors in managing risks and improving operational performance.
  • Deliver training, toolbox talks and awareness initiatives across the business.
  • Liaise with customers, regulatory authorities, certification bodies and external stakeholders as required.
  • Carry out internal and external supplier audits.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead QHSE-related projects.

About You

You will be an experienced QHSE professional with a passion for improving standards and influencing positive behaviours.

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Health & Safety or QHSE management role.
  • Experience of managing ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification audits.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, construction or other industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a leadership team.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards Chartered status.
  • Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Experience supporting behavioural safety and culture change programmes.
  • NEBOSH Diploma, Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent higher-level qualification.
