Role overview
Introduction to the role:
We are looking for an ambitious and experienced tax lawyer to join our leading corporate team in London. The team, headed up by Michael Bennett, is recognised for their combination of technical expertise, commercial acumen and excellent client service.
Introduction to the team:
Our highly experienced and recognised corporate team operates from our offices in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London, Leeds, Hong Kong and Singapore. We offer our clients accessible corporate support from our experienced national and international network and specialise in advising a range of clients, from large-listed companies and private equity funds to smaller start-up and owner-managed businesses and management teams on the full range of transactions – both domestic and cross-border.

Key responsibilities:
  • Advising clients on a wide range of corporate tax matters, including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, corporate finance and banking transactions.
  • Providing advice to investors, developers, landlords and tenants, and ‘property rich’ or property-reliant businesses on the tax (including SDLT, VAT, CIS and chargeable gains) implications of direct and indirect property investments, disposals and projects.
  • Providing tax-efficient structuring advice to a variety of clients (be they corporates, OMBs, private equity houses or management teams) on reorganisations, joint ventures, debt restructurings, development projects and inward investments.
  • Producing and negotiating clear, concise and unambiguous tax drafting for inclusion in transaction documents.
  • Training, managing and supervising junior associates, trainees and paralegals and building excellent working relationships with senior team members and partners.
  • Developing your own internal and external network of contacts and playing a significant role in business development for the team.
  • Attending, and helping to arrange, business development and profile-raising events (client seminars, legal directories updates and submissions, website news
    and publications on social media).
  • Developing and maintaining tax knowledge and understanding at an individual and team level and (as appropriate) within the wider firm.
  • Assisting with business development and pitches including (where appropriate) client training or research about tax issues relevant to particular clients or targets.

What are we looking for:
Important criteria:
  • Qualified Solicitor or equivalent
  • Clear and demonstrable experience of corporate and/or real estate tax matters.

It would be beneficial for you to have some of the following:
  • The ability to independently manage a varied tax caseload and provide technically sound and commercial tax advice.
  • Strong technical skills and a willingness to continue and promote learning.
  • A willingness to adhere to guidelines and procedures.
  • A desire to contribute to and help shape tax team initiatives.
  • An understanding of clients’ needs and expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise.
  • Proficiency in use of document management systems
  • Flexibility in approach and a willingness to work outside normal office hours, if required.

If you don't meet all of the criteria above but feel that you could add real value to Hill Dickinson, we encourage you to submit an application and if successful, we can help you develop along the way.
