Food Technologist (Food Manufacturing)

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000

Location: Berkshire

Work Pattern: Hybrid (3 days in office 2 days WFH)

About the role

I am recruiting on behalf of a well-established international food business that supplies high-quality food products to leading UK retailers. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Food Technologist with a strong background in food manufacturing and a genuine passion for food safety, quality, and compliance.

Working closely with the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for managing technical relationships with global suppliers and customers, ensuring that product specifications, artwork, technical documentation, and compliance records are accurate, up to date, and audit ready. You will play a key role in maintaining food safety, regulatory compliance, and supporting the successful delivery of new and existing products.

Responsibilities

Maintain food safety, quality, legality, authenticity, and customer compliance across assigned products and suppliers.

Write, review, and maintain accurate product specifications, ensuring all technical data is complete, compliant, and up to date.

Review and approve packaging artwork to ensure compliance with UK, EU, US, and South African food legislation, customer requirements, and internal standards.

Maintain and review HACCP, TACCP, VACCP, shelf-life studies, traceability, and other food safety risk assessment documentation.

Monitor supplier compliance, conduct technical reviews, support improvement plans, and ensure adherence to customer codes of practice.

Ensure specifications, artwork, technical documentation, and compliance requirements are completed before product launch.

Prepare for internal, supplier, and customer audits, maintain audit-ready documentation, and coordinate corrective actions for non-conformances.

Act as the primary technical contact for suppliers, customers, and internal teams, responding to technical queries and supporting product changes and reformulations.

Support complaint investigations, perform root cause analysis, monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and escalate unresolved technical risks.

Provide KPI reporting, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, participate in internal audit and VACCP teams, and provide cover for the Technical Manager when required.

Essential

Minimum 3 years’ experience within the food industry (retail, food manufacturing or agent and broker).

HACCP level 3.

Food Safety level 3.

Lead Auditor (preferred).

Minimum BSc degree (2:1) in Food Science or similar.

Travel requirements

The role requires flexibility to travel internationally, including occasional long-haul travel (approximately once or twice per year), and the ability to work effectively from the office, remotely, and whilst travelling.

If you are an experienced Food Technologist or have a similar technical background, this is an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly growing and innovative business, offering genuine career development and progression opportunities.

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
