The role

As a Quality Controller, you’ll take on a role that’s anything but ordinary. You’ll be the expert ensuring every component and assembly meets the highest standards so our customers, and society as a whole, can depend on the nuclear solutions we deliver.


Day-to-day, you’ll

  • Inspect supply‑chain deliverables and Whetstone‑manufactured components and assemblies, and witness test activities to verify compliance.
  • Review and approve quality records and associated documentation to confirm completeness and accuracy.
  • Report on process‑control documentation as work progresses, monitoring performance and ensuring procedures are followed.
  • Apply our Business Management System (BMS), including raising technical queries and non‑conformance reports where required.
  • Complete transactions in SAP to confirm deliverables acceptance or rejection and maintain traceable records.

This is a permanent role, working 37 hours per week, based at Leicester, Leicestershire. Set working times are Monday to Thursday 07:30–16:15 and Friday 07:30–12:30, and the role is on-site five days a week.


Essential experience of the Quality Controller:

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and data sheets in a production or engineering environment.
  • Using and reading dimensional inspection equipment (e.g., gauges, micrometers, height gauges).
  • Demonstrable calibration experience and maintaining equipment accuracy.
  • Proven inspection background in an engineering/manufacturing setting.

Qualifications for the Quality Controller:

  • ONC / HNC / Craft or equivalent in Mechanical or Production Engineering (or comparable practical experience).

Security Clearance
