An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Travel Health Nurse to join Well Travelled Clinics (WTC) - a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). This key clinical role will support the delivery of high-quality travel and occupational health services across WTC’s Liverpool and Chester clinics.
As a Travel Health Nurse, you will be responsible for providing individualised, evidence-based travel health advice and care to business, leisure, and occupational travellers. You will carry out comprehensive risk assessments, deliver vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis in line with national guidance, and contribute to the maintenance of excellent clinical standards within the clinics. The role also offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a portfolio of clinical research studies, working in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research governance requirements.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and under the direction of the Nurse Manager, you will play an important role in ensuring WTC continues to deliver safe, effective, and customer-focused services.
Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):
- Deliver high-quality travel and occupational health care, including comprehensive risk assessments, health education, and the administration of vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis in line with PGDs and PSDs.
- Provide evidence-based advice for complex travel itineraries and medical histories, escalating and referring cases appropriately.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure best practice in informed consent, infection control, vaccine storage, and cold chain management.
- Undertake clinical procedures including venepuncture, Yellow Fever vaccination services, and participation in off-site and pop-up clinics.
- Contribute to clinical research, audit, safeguarding, stock management, and continuous improvement activities while working effectively within a multidisciplinary team and in accordance with WTC and LSTM policies.
You will possess:
- Registered Nurse status with relevant post-registration experience.
- UKHSA national minimum standard core immunisation training and experience administering vaccines under Patient Group Directions.
- Knowledge and understanding of informed consent, clinical governance, and Good Clinical Practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to high standards of client care.
- The ability to work flexibly across Liverpool and Chester clinics, including evenings, Saturdays, and off-site locations as required.
(For a full list of essential and desirable criteria, please refer to the job description and person specification.)
Additional benefits of joining LSTM:
- 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro-rata)
- Occupational pension scheme
- Government-backed “cycle to work” scheme
- Affiliated, discounted staff membership to the University of Liverpool Sports Centre
- Plus, a host of additional family-friendly policies
