Full job description

The Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU) as part of the University Hospital Dorset Trust screens approximately 43,000 women per year as part of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme. The Trust also provides symptomatic services based at Poole Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. DBSU is fully digital with eight mammography units (three being mobile), four having tomosynthesis.

We are currently looking for a Band 6 mammographer and would welcome applications from experienced mammographers and newly qualified radiographers who are passionate about breast imaging. If relevant, training will be given for the right candidate to achieve a post graduate award in mammography.

The banding would be dependent upon training required and experience (Band 6 if qualified in mammography or Band 5 at trainee level - progressing to Band 6 on qualification and completion of probation period where required and competencies).

Base Location: Poole Hospital

Interview Date: TBC

The successful candidate will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team undertaking screening mammography to the high standard required by the NHS Breast Screening Service on mobile and static units that form the Dorset Breast Screening Unit (DBSU). They will also provide specialist imaging and high-quality service in both assessment and symptomatic breast clinics at Poole and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals. The department is forward thinking and has always encouraged advanced practice. We currently have four substantive Consultant Radiographers and a team of advanced practitioners in various specialties who contribute to the development of the Breast Imaging Services in the Trust. We are actively involved in a wide range of research projects, both locally and nationally and have a partnership with a local University offering teaching on their Breast MSc pathway.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and service-focused individual, willing to work with a wide range of disciplines and professionals at all levels within the organisations. Full details of the role can be found in the job description and person specification documents.

Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do now and in the future. They define how we treat our patients, visitors, and each other, our valued teammates and colleagues.

UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme.

This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have at interview.

Please refer to the relevant job description and person specification for the full duties, roles and responsibilities of the position.
