Senior Sample Machinist
We are looking for an experienced Sample Machinist to join our development team, working across high street womenswear and sometimes kids wear collections. Key Responsibilities
Construct first samples, prototypes, and production samples across womenswear categories including dresses, jersey, and woven garments.
Interpret patterns, technical packs, and sketches to produce accurate and high‑standard garments.
Assemble garments from start to finish, ensuring correct construction methods, stitch quality, and appropriate finishing techniques.
Work across a variety of fabrics, including wovens, stretch fabrics, knits, denim, and delicate materials suitable for both womenswear and childrenswear.
Collaborate closely with designers, garment technologists, and pattern cutters to achieve the desired fit and aesthetic.
Identify and resolve construction challenges, suggesting practical improvements to enhance garment quality and efficiency.
Operate and maintain a range of industrial sewing machines and equipment to a high standard.
Support urgent development deadlines and occasional small production runs when required.
Ensure work meets quality standards suitable for high street retail production.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Sample Machinist within a high street fashion environment (womenswear and/or kids wear).
Strong technical knowledge of garment construction for both adult and childrenswear.
Ability to confidently read patterns, specifications, and technical drawings.
Skilled in operating a variety of industrial sewing machines.
Understanding of fit considerations specific to childrenswear (comfort, durability, safety, and movement).
Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to producing high‑quality samples.
Strong problem‑solving skills with a proactive, solutions‑focused approach.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ideal Candidate
Passionate about fashion, garment construction, and product development.
Experienced across both womenswear and kidswear categories.
Detail‑oriented, organised, and highly accurate in their work.
Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast‑moving high street environment.
Positive, collaborative, and proactive in the sample room.
