Recruitment Specialist
WHO WE NEED
We're on the lookout for a Recruitment Specialist who's not just technically sharp and commercially savvy, but who truly gives a damn. At The Little HR Department, we're a small, passionate team that punches well above our weight, and we love helping our amazing clients.
Our clients trust us to bring energy, know-how and heart to every conversation, so you'll need to be proactive, dependable and able to flex with the fast pace and variety that comes with working in (and with) small businesses. If you're the kind of person who leads with positivity, does the right thing (even when no one's watching), and wants to make a genuine difference to the people you support, we'd love to hear from you.
This isn't a role for someone who simply wants to manage vacancies. We're looking for someone who enjoys partnering with clients, shaping recruitment strategies and helping growing businesses make great hiring decisions.
We work Monday to Thursday, have an office base in Farnham, Surrey, and take a flexible approach to how we work. We're looking for someone to work 16 hours per week, ideally across 4 days, although we would consider 3 days, and we're happy to discuss how those hours are worked to suit both our clients' needs and yours. The role can be carried out remotely; however, you'll need to be based within a reasonable travelling distance of Farnham and able to attend the office at least once a month. Attendance at our quarterly team meetings is also an essential part of staying connected with the team. If you'd like to spend additional time in the office, we'd love that too.
The salary for this role is £38,000-£40,000 FTE (pro rata, based on a 37.5-hour full-time working week), depending on experience.
ABOUT US
The Little HR Department was founded in 2018 and is proudly run by two experienced HR professionals who wanted to break free from the corporate world and do things differently.
We're all about supporting brilliant start-ups and small to medium-sized organisations across the UK, offering flexible, down-to-earth HR support that fits their world, not the other way around.
Our clients span a wide mix of sectors, and we love getting stuck in, building trusted relationships and delivering high-quality, human HR that really makes a difference.
Our core values are:
- Human
- Give a damn
- Dependable
- Positive
- Have a conscience
THE ROLE
As our Recruitment Specialist, you will:
- Take the lead on recruitment across our client base, partnering closely with hiring managers and working hand in hand with our HR Consultants to support our clients.
- Run the end-to-end recruitment process (or part of it, depending on client requirements) for a wide range of roles, from shaping the brief and crafting great job adverts, sourcing strategy and pre-screening, to interviewing, offering and supporting smooth onboarding.
- Partner with start-ups and growing businesses to help shape roles, define requirements and build recruitment strategies that support their growth plans.
- Be the go-to person for all things recruitment, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and sharing your expertise with both our clients and the wider team.
- Use benchmarking to recommend fair, competitive reward packages that attract the right talent.
- Support strong selection processes that add value by developing interview questions, practical tasks, competency scenarios and online assessments that really help identify great people.
- Use our ATS and other recruitment platforms confidently, while managing the relationship with our external ATS partner.
- Create a friendly, engaging and professional experience for every candidate, every time.
- Stay curious about what's happening in the recruitment world, keeping up to date with tools, trends and insights and sharing anything useful with the team.
- Lead on developing recruitment tools and templates that help us (and our clients) work smarter.
- Play a key role in growing and shaping our recruitment offering, helping us bring it to even more clients in meaningful ways.
- Help us develop training on recruitment and, if you'd like to, deliver this to our clients as needed.
OUR DREAM PERSON
- Cracking recruitment knowledge, common sense and the ability to apply that knowledge practically.
- Proven experience managing end-to-end recruitment processes, from taking a client brief through to offer and onboarding.
- Able to confidently take and qualify recruitment briefs, asking the right questions and helping clients define what success in a role looks like.
- Experience working with start-ups, SMEs and growing businesses, supporting them to shape roles, define hiring needs and make confident recruitment decisions.
- Can demonstrate that they can act as a true and trusted recruitment partner, not just fill vacancies.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver to deadlines.
- An organisation king or queen! Able to work under pressure and thrive in a busy start-up environment.
- Loves taking ownership of things and making them happen.
- Loves finding better ways of working and turning them into real impact.
- Commercially minded but also not afraid to show our value of "have a conscience" where needed.
- Flexible and open-minded with an energetic and positive approach to work.
- Confident and a great communicator, someone who builds strong relationships and isn't afraid to pick up the phone.
- Comfortable advising, influencing and constructively challenging clients where needed to achieve the right recruitment outcome.
- Willing to get stuck into whatever is needed to support the broader team.
- Not afraid of the sometimes-chaotic world of small businesses.
- Has a great sense of humour (this is a value we hold very dear).
- Ideally, you’ll have in-house recruitment experience and understand the realities of hiring from within a growing business.
THE FRILLS
We are a small but mighty business and can offer:
- A small, friendly team in an exciting start-up HR consultancy environment
- 25 days' holiday (pro rata)
- Additional days for the Christmas closure
- Flexible/hybrid/remote working
- Paid time off for dependants (1 day)
- Paid mental health days (2 days)
- If it snows, you get a snow day so you can go sledging (or to the pub)
- Employee Assistance Programme, including the option for face-to-face counselling
- Access to a wellbeing discount platform
- Learning and development opportunities
We're looking for someone who understands that great recruitment isn't just about filling vacancies. It's about helping businesses make confident hiring decisions that support their growth and long-term success. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
WE'RE COMMITTED TO BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE, DIVERSE AND WELCOMING TEAM
We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences. If you need any adjustments or support to ensure you can fully participate in our recruitment process, just let us know. We'll be happy to help.
The closing date for applications is 5 November. However, as we're keen to find the right person, we reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive a high volume of suitable applications. We therefore encourage interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.
