Full job description

Genesis Childcare group Ltd is an ambitious and values-driven organisation opening a new 3-bed children’s home, Mercury House, in Leicester. Our aim is to provide high-quality, therapeutic, nurturing care for children aged 8–17 who present with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate Responsible Individual who will lead the home through successful Ofsted registration and provide strategic oversight, ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance and child-centred care.

Role Overview

The Responsible Individual will provide strategic leadership, support the Registered Manager, and ensure the home operates in full compliance with all legislative and regulatory frameworks. You will play a crucial role in establishing a strong, safeguarding-led culture and embedding the values of Genesis Childcare group Ltd throughout the service.

This role is Temporary, with a hybrid working approach, and requires flexible availability to meet regulatory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Regulatory & Compliance

  • Lead the home through the full Ofsted Registration Process (SC2) ensuring all requirements are met to a high standard.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and all national guidance.
  • Oversee Ofsted notifications, regulation compliance, and quality assurance systems.
  • Ensure that the home is consistently inspection-ready and achieves strong Ofsted outcomes.

Safeguarding Leadership

  • Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Genesis Childcare group Ltd.
  • Support the Registered Manager and senior staff with safeguarding decisions.
  • Ensure timely reporting of serious incidents to Ofsted, LADO, and other statutory agencies.
  • Lead or oversee internal investigations, ensuring robust safety plans and learning outcomes.

Culture, Vision & Leadership

  • Champion a nurturing, therapeutic, trauma-informed approach throughout Mercury House.
  • Role-model high-quality practice and challenge unsafe or inappropriate practice immediately.
  • Promote a learning culture that prioritises reflective practice and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure staff uphold the values and ethos of Genesis Childcare group Ltd at all times.

Staffing & Resource Management

  • Oversee safer recruitment processes in accordance with statutory guidance.
  • Support workforce planning, staff retention, and the development of a skilled team.
  • Provide leadership oversight to the Registered Manager regarding staffing, supervision and training.
  • Monitor financial sustainability and resource allocation across the home.

Quality Assurance & Outcomes

  • Monitor care plans, risk assessments, behaviour support plans and placement documentation.
  • Review and quality assure reports, incident records, and regulatory documents.
  • Ensure systems are in place to monitor children’s progress, safety, and well-being.
  • Produce high-quality reports for internal and external stakeholders, including Ofsted inspections, Responsible Individual reports and organisational audits.

Partnership & Multi-Agency Working

  • Build strong relationships with placing authorities, social workers, safeguarding leads, families, and external professionals.
  • Attend LAC reviews, strategy meetings, safeguarding meetings, and multi-agency forums as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience as a Responsible Individual or senior leader in a Children’s Home.
  • Proven experience supporting or registering a new children’s home with Ofsted.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Residential Childcare) or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of legislation, regulations, and Ofsted inspection frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of care planning, behaviour support, risk management and therapeutic approaches.
  • Full UK driving licence.
