About Us

Optimal 10 Limited is a small boutique publishing company based in Bishop’s Stortford, working with premium clients on project-led publishing and content initiatives. We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support our day-to-day financial and administrative operations.

This role is primarily office-based and suited to someone who enjoys working closely with a small team and taking ownership of core finance processes. Some flexibility to work off-site may be available by arrangement, however the majority of working days will be spent in the office.

Job Description

The role is responsible for managing the financial administration of the business, ensuring accurate records, strong cash flow visibility, and effective project-level cost control.

PAYE processing is fully outsourced to a specialist payroll provider. The role involves posting payroll journals only, not calculating payroll or making PAYE submissions.

We are open to engaging the right candidate either on a part-time PAYE basis or as a freelancer under a fixed-hours contract, depending on experience and preference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creation and management of sales invoices
  • Processing and matching purchase invoices, including late invoices against project costs
  • Maintaining accurate work in progress (WIP) reporting for project-based work
  • Managing and reconciling bank transactions
  • Inputting and maintaining financial data within Sage accounting systems
  • Preparation and submission of VAT and CIS returns
  • Posting PAYE journals prepared by our external payroll provider(No payroll calculations or PAYE submissions required)
  • Production of monthly management information
  • Cash flow forecasting and monitoring
  • Credit control, including chasing outstanding invoices where required
  • Raising purchase orders
  • Liaising with suppliers to ensure efficient and well-controlled business processes

Experience with full factoring or invoice discounting would be an advantage.

Essential Requirements

Fully trained and experienced in Sage accounting systems

  • Strong understanding of work in progress (WIP) and project-based accounting
  • Experience matching late supplier invoices to project costs
  • Sound understanding of cash flow forecasting and credit control
  • Experience posting payroll journals from external payroll providers
  • Proven bookkeeping or accounts administration experience
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable working independently in a small, fast-moving team

Working Pattern

3 days per week

  • 9:30am – 4:30pm
  • Primarily office-based in Bishop’s Stortford, with limited off-site flexibility by arrangement

Job Types: Part-time, Freelance

Pay: £14,000.00-£18,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 24 per week
