In-House Chartered Accountant (Hands-On) – Caring & Leading Group

Full-Time or Flex-Time | Hybrid / Remote | Salary Negotiable

Caring & Leading is a respected and fast-growing group of care homes, known for quality care, strong values, and operational excellence. We are now recruiting a hands-on, detail-obsessed Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA) who will take full ownership of our finance function — from bookkeeping to payroll oversight, to HMRC submissions, to end-of-year accounts.

This is a rare role for someone who enjoys both high-level accounting and the practical, day-to-day bookkeeping required to run a multi-entity care group.

What Makes This Role Different

  • You are not just reviewing the work of others — you will directly do the bookkeeping and help shape the basis of the company financials and systems/processes
  • You will handle the full finance cycle end-to-end
  • You will work closely with the Account support, Financial Director, CEO and leadership
  • We are a growing group (7 homes and expanding), offering long-term stability and future upside
  • Flexible hours and hybrid/remote working to suit your lifestyle

Key Responsibilities1. Bookkeeping (Hands-On)

You will personally manage and maintain:

  • Daily bookkeeping across multiple care-home entities (7+ companies)- assistance with account support at head office
  • Posting invoices, receipts, journals, accruals, prepayments
  • Bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations
  • Supplier management and payment runs
  • Monthly close process for each company
  • Maintaining a consistent chart of accounts and financial controls
  • Ensuring all transactions are accurate, compliant, and up to date

2. Payroll Oversight & Support

  • Oversee the payroll process for ~180 staff
  • Liaise with the payroll provider to ensure:
  • Accurate payslips
  • Correct tax codes
  • Pension contributions
  • Holiday pay calculations
  • RTI submissions
  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and ensure full compliance

3. HMRC Compliance & Submissions

  • Prepare and submit:
  • VAT returns
  • PAYE & NI
  • Corporation tax documentation
  • Manage all HMRC correspondence, queries, and investigations
  • Ensure all deadlines are met without fail
  • Advise on tax-efficient structures and business relief considerations

4. End-of-Year Accounts

  • Prepare full year-end accounts for each company
  • Manage group-level accounts and consolidations where needed
  • Work with external accountants only for filing support (if required)
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all statutory requirements

5. Financial Reporting & Business Support

  • Produce monthly management accounts for each home
  • Provide budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow updates

Ideal Candidate

  • Chartered Accountant (ACA or ACCA) – essential
  • Comfortable doing both high-level and hands-on bookkeeping
  • Strong understanding of payroll, VAT, HMRC processes, and multi-company accounting
  • Experience with Sage similar cloud bookkeeping system
  • Extremely organised, accurate, and reliable
  • Experience in health & social care or property-based businesses is a bonus but not required
  • Someone who prefers long-term stability and ownership of a finance function

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary (negotiable based on experience)
  • Full-time or flex-time hours
  • Hybrid/remote working
  • Stable, long-term role in a growing care-home group
  • Supportive culture with autonomy and trust
  • Opportunity to shape and streamline our finance systems
