The Windmill in Parbold is looking for a highly experienced hospitality professional to join us as Assistant General Manager.

We’re a busy country pub with a strong focus on good food, welcoming service and giving guests a reason to return. Alongside our main pub and dining operation, we have Bar 1794, bringing live music, sport and a different pace to the business.

We need someone who can confidently run a busy service, lead a team and take ownership. You’ll be approachable, commercially aware and passionate about hospitality, with the experience to keep standards high when the pressure is on.

The role

Working closely with the General Manager and Operations Manager, you’ll help lead the day-to-day running of the venue. This is a hands-on position with a strong presence on the floor and behind the bar, supporting the team and making sure every shift runs smoothly.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading busy food and drinks services, maintaining consistent standards across the venue.
• Taking responsibility for the business in the General Manager’s absence.
• Supervising, motivating and developing the front-of-house and bar teams.
• Managing bookings, large parties and pre-orders, communicating clearly with the kitchen.
• Building relationships with regulars and making new guests feel welcome.
• Handling guest feedback and complaints confidently and professionally.
• Supporting recruitment, inductions, training and performance reviews.
• Planning staffing levels and supporting rotas to meet business needs and wage budgets.
• Monitoring sales, labour costs, stock and wastage, identifying practical improvements.
• Overseeing opening and closing procedures, cash handling and daily checks.
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation, food safety and responsible alcohol service.
• Supporting menu launches, events and seasonal promotions.

What we’re looking for

• Substantial hospitality experience, including proven management experience in a busy pub, restaurant or similar venue.
• Experience as an Assistant General Manager, Deputy Manager or an established hospitality manager ready for greater responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of both food service and bar operations.
• A confident leader who sets the standard through their own work and holds the team accountable.
• An understanding of sales targets, wage percentages, gross profit and stock control.
• Excellent organisation and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise during demanding shifts.
• A warm, outgoing personality and a natural ability to connect with guests and colleagues.
• A proactive approach: someone who notices what needs doing and follows it through.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays and the busy festive period.
