About the Role

We are opening a new 4-bed children’s residential home and are seeking an experienced and committed Registered Manager to lead the service through Ofsted registration and into operation. The home will support children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) using trauma-informed, relational approaches within a safe, nurturing, and participation-led environment.

This role is offered on a consultancy basis during the pre-registration phase, transitioning to full employment upon successful Ofsted registration.

Pre-Registration Consultancy (Before Ofsted Registration)

During the pre-registration period, the successful candidate will be engaged on a consultancy basis only.

  • A retainer of £500 per calendar month will be payable only during periods of active engagement, where the consultant is requested to:
  • Complete or contribute to Ofsted documentation
  • Provide professional input into policies and the Statement of Purpose
  • Participate in agreed discussions or brief calls relating to registration
  • No retainer will be payable during periods where no engagement is required, including renovation phases or pauses in the registration process.
  • This arrangement does not constitute employment and carries no operational or managerial control of the home during this phase.

Key Responsibilities (Post-Registration)

  • Provide effective leadership and day-to-day management of the children’s home, ensuring compliance with Ofsted standards, the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and safeguarding legislation.
  • Personally develop, implement, and review individualised care plans, ensuring they are child-centred, risk-assessed, and outcome-focused.
  • Promote the physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of children through structured routines, positive risk management, and trauma-informed care.
  • Lead, supervise, and manage all residential staff, providing formal reflective supervision, performance management, and continuous professional development.
  • Foster a participation-led culture, ensuring children’s voices are heard and respected while maintaining clear boundaries and consistency.
  • Oversee staff rotas, training requirements, incident reporting, and daily operations, working in partnership with the Provider / Responsible Individual.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with local authorities, social workers, education providers, health professionals, and families, engaging families on a case-by-case, risk-assessed basis.
  • Manage the home’s budget within provider-approved limits, with direct purchasing authority up to an agreed spend threshold.
  • Lead preparation for Ofsted inspections and ensure the home is consistently inspection-ready, striving for a rating of ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.

Essential Requirements

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or working towards).
  • Significant experience (3 years minimum) within children’s residential care, ideally as a Registered Manager .
  • Strong working knowledge of Ofsted frameworks, SCCIF, and children’s residential legislation.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and deliver high-quality, compliant care.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, child-centred practice.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary of £60,000 – £80,000
  • Opportunity to shape and lead a new service from registration onwards
  • Supportive, hands-on provider with realistic expectations
  • Clear governance, shared accountability, and long-term growth potential
  • Performance based Bonuses
