Overview

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive, and reliable Assistant to the Practice Manager to support the smooth day-to-day running of the firm. The ideal candidate will have strong administrative skills, excellent communication ability, and the capacity to multitask effectively in a busy legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily administrative support to the Practice Manager across all operational areas.
  • Assist with HR tasks, including onboarding, maintaining staff records, tracking attendance, and coordinating training.
  • Support compliance processes, including updating policies, monitoring deadlines, and ensuring adherence to SRA, GDPR, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Handle general office administration, such as scheduling meetings, organising staff rotas, monitoring supplies, and maintaining office equipment.
  • Assist with managing staff queries and acting as a point of contact for internal communication.
  • Support financial administration, including timesheet monitoring, invoicing assistance, and liaising with accounts where required.
  • Help coordinate internal audits, risk assessments, and file reviews.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records and logs for the Practice Manager.
  • Assist with recruitment–posting job adverts, scheduling interviews, and preparing documentation.
  • Support the Practice Manager with projects, reporting, and workflow improvements.
  • Ensure the office environment remains organised, professional, and compliant at all times.

Requirements

  • Strong administrative or office management experience (legal sector preferred but not essential).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Understanding of SRA or regulatory compliance.
  • HR or administrative qualifications (advantageous but not essential).
