Full job description

THE ROLE
We are seeking a knowledgeable, service-focused Senior Sommelier to join our wonderful team at STRAKER'S in Notting Hill.

This is not an admin role, this is an opportunity to sell incredible wines to guests, getting fully stuck into service and sharing your knowledge of wine with the front of house team and guests alike.

With the opening of The Dining Room, our event space next door to the restaurant, and as we are selling more brilliant wines than ever, we are expanding our team for the first time in a long time.

The ideal candidate will possess a refined palate, excellent, personable customer service skills, and a strong understanding of fine wine, particularly that of classic French regions.

Thomas Straker's first restaurant opened in 2023, it is a busy, vibrant space where the team bring their personality and passion to service. We pride ourselves on being a restaurant group where our staff are encouraged to grow and learn, in a safe space.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will be service based, providing expert advice on wine selections and pairings.
  • Help maintain the vast wine list alongside the Head of Wine and Head Sommelier.
  • Assist in training the wider front of house team on wine service and knowledge of the ever changing by the glass list.
  • Service at wine dinners and special events.
  • Maintain cleanliness, compliance and organisation of the wine cellar and service areas.

COMPETANCIES

  • Previous wine service experience in a busy, high quality restaurant with an extensive wine list is a non-negotiable.
  • A strong understanding of wine varieties and regions is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills with a friendly, professional demeanour.
  • Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced setting.
  • WSET qualifications welcomed but not necessary if the experience is there.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £16.00-£17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 per week

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • London W10 5NL: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
