Full job description

**Open to Graduates** - Reading based

Are you an excellent writer who enjoys understanding businesses, communicating with clients and turning complex information into clear recommendations?

Do you want to work for an exciting, fast-growing company?

Beacon Advisory Group is looking for a confident, commercially minded Sustainability and Social Value Consultant to join our growing team in Reading.

We are flexible about background and experience. You may be a recent graduate, an early-career professional or someone with relevant consulting or sustainability experience. The responsibilities, training and level of ownership will be adapted to the successful candidate’s capabilities.

The most important qualities are excellent writing, strong communication skills, commercial awareness and a genuine interest in sustainability.

About Beacon Advisory Group

Beacon Advisory Group is an investment-backed sustainability and social value consultancy with ambitious plans for growth.

We work with clients ranging from venture-backed start-ups to FTSE 250 companies, helping them turn sustainability ambitions into practical action, measurable impact and commercial value.

Our work includes:

  • Social value for UK government and public-sector procurement
  • Sustainability strategies, policies and impact reporting
  • Carbon footprint calculations and reduction planning
  • EcoVadis assessments and improvement programmes

The role

You will work directly with clients to understand their businesses and produce clear, practical and commercially relevant sustainability advice.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Communicating with clients and building trusted professional relationships
  • Writing sustainability strategies, policies, reports and recommendations
  • Helping clients strengthen public-sector bids through social value
  • Calculating carbon footprints and developing reduction plans
  • Supporting SECR and other non-financial reporting
  • Guiding clients through EcoVadis assessments
  • Evaluating sustainability performance and identifying practical improvements
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Managing deadlines across several client projects

A typical week could include interviewing a client’s leadership team, researching an unfamiliar sector, writing a social value response, analysing carbon data and presenting recommendations to a managing director.

What we are looking for

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent written English
  • Confidence communicating with clients by email, telephone, video call and in person
  • The ability to understand and interpret unfamiliar information quickly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Good organisation, time management and attention to detail
  • Initiative and ownership of your work
  • A genuine interest in sustainability and responsible business
  • A strong undergraduate degree or equivalent evidence of written, analytical and professional ability

Previous experience in sustainability, social value, bid writing, carbon reporting, public-sector procurement or EcoVadis would be useful, but it is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who can write clearly, build credibility with clients and learn quickly.

Training and progression

We expect to train the successful candidate according to their existing knowledge and experience.

You will receive:

  • Practical training across Beacon’s core services
  • Support and regular feedback from experienced colleagues
  • Paid formal training and professional development
  • Opportunities to observe and then lead client meetings
  • Increasing responsibility for projects and client relationships

Progression is based on performance and capability rather than time served. People who consistently produce excellent work, build strong client relationships and demonstrate readiness for greater responsibility will have the opportunity to progress quickly.

Why join Beacon?

At Beacon, you will benefit from:

  • A salary of £32,000–£40,000, depending on experience
  • A performance-related bonus
  • Paid training and professional development
  • Direct exposure to senior business leaders
  • Early responsibility for meaningful client work
  • Experience across several areas of sustainability and social value
  • The opportunity to help shape a growing consultancy

Our office is co-located with a partner company of approximately 40 consultants. This gives our team the pace and opportunity of a growing business alongside an established professional environment, strong social culture and high-quality office setup.

This is an in-person role based at our office in Reading. We believe working together supports faster learning, stronger collaboration and better professional development.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and a concise, tailored cover letter of no more than 300 words addressing:

  • Why you are interested in joining Beacon and developing your career in sustainability.
  • The strongest commercial reason for a business to invest in sustainability beyond meeting its legal obligations.

We will use your cover letter to assess your writing ability, commercial thinking and motivation for the role.

Beacon Advisory Group welcomes applications from candidates with different backgrounds, experiences and career paths. Please let us know if you require reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process.

Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension
  • Flexitime
  • Paid volunteer time
  • Sick pay

Work Location: In person
