Seeking: AIX & Red Hat Linux Engineer to join our team onsite at our client site in Preston, 3 days and 2 days from home.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled AIX & Red Hat Linux Engineer to join our team and work on-site with one of our UK-based clients. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise UNIX/Linux systems in a secure environment.

The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Manage LPARs, VIO servers, and HMCs in IBM Power Systems environments.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance across AIX and RHEL platforms.
  • Perform OS upgrades, patching, and backup/recovery operations.
  • Automate administration tasks using shell scripting, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders and internal teams to support business-critical applications.
  • Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.
  • Provide on-site technical support and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations and operational procedures.

What We Looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in AIX systems administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems, LPARs, and VIO servers.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Korn, Bash, etc.).
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
  • Familiarity with SAN storage, networking, and virtualization.
  • Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of LDAP for authentication and directory services.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client environment.
  • Must hold or be eligible for UK Government Security Clearance.

Desirable Skills

  • Python scripting for automation and integration tasks.
  • IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments or containerization (Docker, Podman).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix).

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated experience managing both AIX and RHEL environments in enterprise settings.
