Join Us

At Vodafone, we’re not just shaping the future of connectivity for our customers – we’re shaping the future for everyone who joins our team. When you work with us, you’re part of a global mission to connect people, solve complex challenges, and create a sustainable and more inclusive world.

This role exists to lead the alignment, technical design assurance and delivery enablement of the transformed voice and SDM core network of UK, between VodafoneThree and Vodafone Group. It ensures robust architecture & design governance, technical compliance, alignment with Vodafone Group functions, and seamless integration of services and customer experience across the heritage and new network domains.

The role shall bring the interests and initiatives of Vodafone Group into the awareness of VodafoneThree, highlighting how they could be exploited for the benefit of VodafoneThree. It shall call upon the knowledge, expertise and experience available throughout the Group Technology function through a matrix of dotted reports.

What you’ll do

  • Provide technology management on behalf of Vodafone Group, bridging both organizations during and after network merger. Mediate across cultures, operating models, and vendor engagement approaches. Ensure technical consistency and alignment between Group standards and local market execution across Voice Core and SDM networks.
  • Translate strategic goals into technical deliverables with cross-functional execution. Identify and mitigate technical and architectural risks during capability build and deployment. Where vendors deliver, provide design assurance—validating technical solutions, network function designs, test plans, and interworking for production readiness. Safeguard engineering rigor through design reviews, compliance checks, integration criteria, and test acceptance.
  • Collaborate across Transport, Data Core, Security, OSS, IT, Operations, and Group Architecture teams. Support VodafoneThree integration readiness and production transitions. Coordinate vendors and labs for integration, testing, and design gap closure. Align with Group stakeholders on solutions, platform reuse, and service parity across heritage and transformed networks. Drive simplification and cost efficiency via legacy decommissioning and platform consolidation. Embed “Right First Time” principles for timely delivery. Align to Vodafone’s Commercialized Services Model and future-proof technical roadmaps. Ensure compliance with Group Architecture, Security Policies, and Regulatory Standards.

Network Scope; Includes heritage Vodafone (Broadcom) and new Transformed Voice & SDM Core network:

  • Mobile Voice: 2G CS, 4G/VoLTE, VoWiFi, 5GSA/VoNR
  • Customer Data: HLR, HSS, EIR, AUC, CCDM/UDR, UPG, USSD, CCSM/UDM
  • Signalling: SS7 STP/SGW, DSC, 5G SC
  • IMS: MTAS, CSCF, SBC/SBG, BGF, MRFP, AFG, ENUM/DNS
  • Infrastructure: CCD CNIS, CEE CNIS, DC Fabric, SDI; includes proprietary, COTS, virtualized/containerized solutions (Vodafone Engineered Cloud, Broadcom, RedHat)
  • Mediation & Provisioning: EM21, EDA2
  • Release 4 Network: MSC, MGW

Technical Requirements

  • Knowledge of Three UK Voice Core & SDM architecture, legacy platforms, and customer data environments
  • Strong understanding of migration workflows for transitioning subscribers from Vodafone and Three UK to Transformed Voice Core & SDM
  • Awareness of commercial migration impacts (capacity, dimensioning) on heritage Vodafone Voice Core & SDM

Target Solution Scope

  • Transformed Core Network design and evolution phases, vendor solutions, deployment models (virtualized/containerized), and key interfaces (IMS, Signaling, CS, SDM)
  • Vodafone pre-merger network: heritage Broadcom stack and cloud infra, bridging distinct platforms during transition
  • Three pre-merger network: IMS and SDM network and its Refresh evolution

Who you are

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience engineering the UK pre-merger Core Enablers and IMS networks in areas from evolution to implementation, underpinned by strong proof points associated with architectural transformation.
  • A knowledge of the Three pre-merger network, ideally acquired through the Clean Team activities leading up to Legal Day1.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with equipment covered under the UK Investigatory Powers Act and holding the necessary security clearance.
  • A proven record of collaboration, problem solving, and applied thinking based on evidence and data, demonstrating both technology breadth and depth.
  • Experienced in designing telecommunication networks in areas broader than the scope covered by Core Enablers based on a sound knowledge of architectural principles.
  • Experienced in evaluating solutions in respect of long- and short-term goals, customer experience, cost and network complexity
  • At least 10 years professional experience in Telecommunications with at least 5 of those leading technical delivery and innovation
  • Expert in the engineering of mobile voice networks for 2G, 4G and 5G technologies
  • Strong knowledge of communication standards, principles and protocols operating at all layers of the protocol stack linked to 3GPP standards
  • Solid understanding of virtualization (VMWare) and containerization (Kubernetes) cloud & infra technologies
  • Experience in pre-merger deal support and post-merger harmonisation of mobile networks, driving end to end technical integration and synergies.
