Full job description

Base Location: Flexible Scotland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN offices or depots around Scotland, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: : £42,600- £64,000 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family

Working Pattern: Fixed Term Contract | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

We have an excellent opportunity for a Telecoms Design Engineer to join our high-performing Networks team and assist in reaching our Net Zero goal.

In this role you will report to the Telecoms Design Manager and work closely with stakeholders to develop, manage and support our control systems within our SSEN Transmission Telecoms network.

You will

  • Develop project requirements into solutions which can be deployed within our Transmission network.
  • take responsibility for design, commissioning and operational support, allowing you a unique opportunity to view the full project life cycle.
  • Perform as a Subject Matter Expert within your technology field, contactable for technical support, guidance and implementation, while becoming a trusted advisor to internal colleagues.
  • Work with internal stakeholders, such as other business units, engineering departments, project managers and designers to determine project scope and detailed requirements.

You have

  • A degree in Telecommunications Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline, although equivalent level experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH), IP networks Layer 2 & 3, Microwave Radio & PMR/DMR UHF.
  • Knowledge of fibre systems including fibre characteristics, electrical utility fibre, ground deploy and 3rd party, including Openreach OSA & EAD product sets.
  • Excellent communication skills allowing you to communicate at all levels on a range of technical subjects. This includes the ability to form structured and reasoned justification in your guidance and support to others, along with the ability to write clear and well-structured technical documentation.
  • The ability to prioritise your workload in an organised and methodical manner in order to meet targets and deadlines.
