Full job description
This post is an exciting opportunity for a doctor with UK experience at specialist trainee level and ideally with experience in Haematology to gain experience in clinical trials and stem cell donor care, supporting the Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Service hosted within the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). The postholder will be expected to play an active role in research and contribute to the management of patients in clinical trials. There will be the opportunity for independent audit and research and collaboration on these with the Anthony Nolan medical team.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the life-saving work we do every day in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our donors. The primary focus will be undertaking donor medical assessments including a thorough history and examination (and in the future patients who require autologous collections), They will review results and assess donor suitability for the donation in discussion with the Anthony Nolan medical team prior to peripheral blood stem cell collection. The role will also support the apheresis nursing team caring for patients during the apheresis procedure and managing any severe or atypical complications.
The post holder will work alongside clinical fellows in the clinical research facility (CRF) as well as an advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) and the apheresis nursing leads. As the lead clinical fellow for the Cell Collection Centre, they will have also strong links with the Anthony Nolan Registry medical team (based in London). Specific training in the care of stem cell donors will be provided, and they will have the opportunity to collaborate on research and quality improvement projects with the Anthony Nolan medical team.
Every day, our teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) make a difference. We save lives, we improve lives, and we usher in new life. We are proud to play a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of people in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and our surrounding communities.
With more than 20,000 colleagues, we are the largest employer in Nottinghamshire and one of the biggest and busiest NHS Trusts in the country, serving more than 2.5m residents of Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and its surrounding communities and a further four million people across the East Midlands and beyond. Our Trust spans over three sites including Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham City Hospital and Ropewalk House.
We provide a range of national and internationally renowned specialist services, and we are at the forefront of new surgical procedures and research programmes.
As a teaching hospital, we are instrumental in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. We are proud of our strong relationships with universities across the East Midlands, including the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University.
