Refuse HGV Driver

Job description
South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council have formed a refuse collection shared service and are recruiting for Refuse Drivers to join our team which deliver high-quality, environmentally-sustainable services.

As a Refuse Driver you will be working with Loaders as a team to collect and empty bins into our trucks in a safe and efficient way. We work to high-customer standards, clearing up spilt rubbish and returning bins to the correct places.

Joining hard-working teams with a service satisfaction rate of over 90%, we need people who can bring a professional and friendly attitude. It is essential that you have good customer service skills with a flexible and positive approach.

Roles with the South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council shared service are based at our Waterbeach Depot for early-morning starts. The contracted hours are 06:00am to 14:30pm.

South Cambridgeshire District Council is a four-day week employer. We expect our colleagues to get 100% of their work done, in around 85% of their contracted hours, for 100% of their pay. All Council staff will be able to opt-in to this way of working under a Productivity Policy. We are a four-day week employer as it helps us attract and keep talented colleagues and improves services by reducing our reliance on costly agency workers. It also supports improved health and wellbeing.

All uniform, along with any other PPE required will be provided.

We offer a career grade average pension scheme (LGPS), you would contribute 5.8% progressing to 6.5% and the council will contribute 17% into your pension.

For an informal discussion about the roles within South Cambridgeshire District Council please contact Kristian Edwards, Assistant Operations Supervisor Kristian.Edwards@scambs.gov.uk

Closing Date: 9am 31 December 2025
