SOCIAL WORK ACADEMY MANAGER - job post
Location
Full job description
We have an established and impressive social work academy in Hull with strong support across the whole council. Through the academy our vision is to create and sustain the conditions for outstanding social work and social work leadership to flourish in Hull by providing high-quality support, learning and development for social workers at all stages of their career and for our managers and leaders. We have made Hull a destination of choice for anyone seeking a fulfilling career in social work and wanting to provide excellent services and direct interventions which make a positive difference to our children by reducing risks and increasing safety and belonging.
The academy strengthens our recruitment efforts by attracting and supporting new entrants to the profession including student social workers, those following apprentice or step-up routes and those joining as Newly Qualified Social Workers. The Academy is helping to create a solid infrastructure to support and expand this growing cohort of social workers coming to Hull. We have a strong commitment to ‘growing our own’ and are determined to put in place the right support and learning environment which will help to develop strong, passionate and resilient social workers committed to making a difference for children in Hull.
The Social Work Academy aims to develop good practice, inspire new ways of working and shape the training, recruitment and retention of social work staff.
At Hull City Council we are committed to our children and young people, and we are passionate about how we deliver services to them. That’s why we have a culture that puts our children and young people at the heart of everything we do – by empowering our workforce to work together to find solutions, to be open, honest, and respectful, to take responsibility and listen and learn from others. If you value these behaviours too, we’d love to hear from you.
The academy provides exciting opportunities for committed, motivated and outstanding individuals who want to join our team and help us deliver excellent, high-quality innovative services.
We are seeking to recruit a permanent Academy Manager.
We are looking for someone with drive, determination and ambition who wants to make a real difference. The Academy Manager will support the improvement journey and plans across the directorate in terms of ensuring high quality, effective safeguarding services for our local community, and our overall vision of more children living safely at home within their families, wherever possible.
The role will focus on recruitment and retention by attracting and supporting new entrants to the profession including student social workers, those following apprentice or step-up routes and those joining as Newly Qualified Social Workers.
In support of our impressive ‘grow your own’ the Academy Manager will need to ensure we have a pipeline of high-quality social workers through the support of the academy to achieve this, including by establishing excellent relationships with local universities and colleges.
The post of Academy Manager will ensure that standards of practice are high and that quality, including the delivery of evidenced based practice, is a consistent focus for the whole team.
The role will directly manage and supervise our team of practice educators and practice leads and, working closely with our learning and development colleagues, will ensure that our specialist training resource is providing an agile, flexible and relevant offer which effectively supports the development of high-quality social work practice.
The Academy Manager will be supported and report directly to the Principal Social Worker and Head of Quality and Performance and will hold a social work qualification and have a depth in experience.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Claire Rutherford on 01482 616 152 or claire.rutherford@hullcc.gov.uk
