Full job description

Are you an organised, proactive, and commercially minded senior transport professional looking for your next challenge? We are looking for a Senior General Haulage Planner to lead our traffic team and join a busy, ambitious, and growing depot operating a 37-vehicle fleet across General Haulage, Pallet Network, and Dedicated Logistics.

The operation includes 16 General Haulage vehicles, 12 Pallet Network vehicles, and 8 Dedicated Logistics vehicles, supported by the company’s own in-house workshop for fleet maintenance.

With Samsara live vehicle tracking, Indigo WMS, and plans to introduce Qargo as its transport management system, the business is investing in the systems, technology, and infrastructure needed to drive performance, visibility, and growth.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role giving the successful candidate the opportunity to take real ownership of daily planning, support the Transport Office, and play an important part in the continued success of the business. For the right person, there is genuine scope to progress into a wider group-level role within the parent group of companies, EFS Global.

This is a varied and fast-moving role where no two days are the same. Working across general haulage, pallet network activity, and dedicated logistics operations, you will plan routes, allocate loads, manage driver schedules, solve live operational challenges, and help ensure collections and deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on time. It is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys pace, responsibility, problem-solving, and being at the centre of a busy transport operation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule daily vehicle routes and driver allocations
  • Use transport management systems, Samsara vehicle tracking, Indigo WMS, the planned Qargo TMS, and other operational software effectively
  • Support and manage the transport team with general operational duties as required
  • Coordinate collections and deliveries across the UK
  • Maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise empty running
  • Monitor driver hours and ensure compliance with transport legislation and Working Time Directive regulations
  • Working in tandem with the Transport Manager to ensure vehicle planning aligns with maintenance schedule to ensure site compliance
  • Liaise with drivers, customers, warehouses, and subcontractors
  • Respond quickly to operational issues including delays, breakdowns, and route changes
  • Ensure all transport documentation is completed accurately
  • Maintain regular communication with customers regarding delivery schedules and updates

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in managing a busy transport office/operation
  • A positive, hands-on team player with a flexible and professional approach
  • Previous experience in transport planning or haulage operations essential
  • Good understanding of UK road transport regulations and tachograph rules
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office and transport planning systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ready to steer your career towards new horizons? Join EFS Group as our next Senior Transport Planner and help us deliver excellence across the UK. Your expertise can make a real difference—apply now to become part of our dynamic team!
