Overview
The right person for this internship will be more than a designer who wants to make things look good. You will be someone who wants to understand why a piece of communication matters, who it is for, what it needs to achieve and how design can help it work harder.
You will be naturally curious. You will be interested in audiences, behaviour, storytelling, science, data and digital experiences. You will enjoy asking questions, exploring ideas and developing design solutions that are thoughtful, useful and visually strong.
You will also understand that healthcare communications requires discipline. Accuracy matters. Detail matters. Compliance matters. The challenge is to create work that is both engaging and responsible.
The internship
As a Postgraduate Design Intern, you will support the creative, project management and digital teams across a broad range of healthcare communication projects.
You will work on live briefs, contribute to design concepts, help develop visual routes, support digital layouts and assist with the creation of client-facing materials. You will be exposed to the full journey of a project — from understanding the brief and the audience, through to design development, refinement, client review and final delivery.
You will learn how design decisions are shaped by audience needs, user journeys, clinical or scientific content, brand guidelines, technical requirements and compliance considerations.
The role would suit a designer who is excited by variety and wants to build experience across digital, web design, UX/UI thinking, data visualisation, scientific communication and healthcare storytelling.
What you will work on
You may support the team across projects such as:
- Website layouts and digital page designs
- User interface concepts for digital tools and platforms
- Data visualisation and infographic design
- Scientific and medical information design
- Presentation decks and client-facing documents
- Visual concepts for healthcare campaigns and resources
- Wireframes, user journeys and content structures
- HCP and patient-facing communication materials
- Social, email and online marketing assets
- Brand application and design system support
- Digital mock-ups and prototypes for client review
You will not be expected to know everything from day one. The key requirement is that you are curious, adaptable and willing to learn.
Key responsibilities
You will support the creative team in producing high-quality design work across digital and communications projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating design concepts, layouts and visual routes under guidance from senior team members
- Supporting website, platform and digital interface design
- Designing slides, mock-ups, presentation documents and visual assets
- Helping create infographics, diagrams and data-led visuals
- Applying client brand guidelines accurately and consistently
- Preparing design work for internal and client review
- Making amends carefully and accurately following feedback
- Supporting the development of final artwork and production-ready files
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a postgraduate designer with a strong foundation, fresh thinking and a genuine appetite to develop towards a permanent full time contract offer.
You will bring:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in graphic design, visual communication, digital design, UX/UI, information design or a related discipline
- A strong student, postgraduate or early-career portfolio
- Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
- Interest in web design, digital platforms and user experience
- Interest in data visualisation, information design or scientific communication
- Strong visual judgement, typography and layout skills
- Good attention to detail
- Clear communication skills
- A proactive, positive and curious approach
- Willingness to learn from feedback
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Experience that would be highly valued
We would be particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Figma
- UX/UI design
- Wireframing and prototyping
- Website or digital product design
- Data visualisation
- Infographic design
- Scientific, medical or healthcare communication
- Motion graphics or animation
- PowerPoint design
- HTML/CSS awareness
- Accessibility and inclusive design
- Designing for regulated or compliance-led environments
You do not need to be expert in all these areas. What matters is that you are confident learning, asking the right questions and helping technical and non-technical stakeholders work together effectively.
Why join LVC?
This is a chance to begin your design career in a specialist agency where your work will have purpose.
You will gain experience across healthcare communications, digital design, scientific storytelling, data visualisation and regulated content. You will learn from experienced designers, project managers, developers and healthcare communications specialists, while contributing to real client work.
For a postgraduate designer who wants to build a distinctive portfolio and develop beyond traditional graphic design, this is an exciting opportunity to grow with LVC at a key stage in our development.
