The Opportunity

As a Technical Team Lead you are responsible for engineering performance and delivery, coaching engineers into high performing teams who build and maintain it right while delivering effectively, whilst getting hands on to accelerate the teams’ progress.

The Specifics

  • Build and grow a high performing team (within the data engineering/BI discipline).
  • Attract, grow and develop team members. You will recruit and develop high performing teams and individuals. Ensure all your direct reports have goals, receive regular feedback and coaching so that they know how they are performing and what they need to do next to advance their career.
  • You will coach, mentor, and support the continuous improvement of your team. Facilitating team growth through an "experiment and learn" mindset to ensure that the team and individuals are always looking for a better way.
  • Lead the software development lifecycle and operational processes for your team.
  • Through partnering with the Product Management team ensure your team has a clear mission, understand their purpose and are continually delivering customer and technical value at a high rate.
  • Lead technical input in the SDLC e.g. planning, stand-ups, estimation, retrospectives and backlog grooming as appropriate.
  • Identify and document technical initiatives to improve system performance, reduce technical debt, cut costs, enhance quality, and boost security. Consult and lobby for these initiatives to be included in the roadmap. This also involves evaluating the health of the code base.
  • You will enable and support your teams running effective and efficient operational processes.
  • Software development and design.
  • Continually improve the quality of the code over time. Lead solution design and review within your team, collaborating and sharing across wider company and ensuring design docs and blueprints are produced and accurate.
  • Developing and maintaining software as part of a self-organising, multi-disciplined scrum team. You’ll remain hands on to guide and grow your engineers, review code, improve quality and contribute code.
  • Continually improve the quality of the code, product and broader engineering system including tooling, processes and capability.
  • Working on initiatives and process improvements to support the wider Development group as a positive influential force for technical best practice.

What we're looking for (you don’t need to be a guru at all,
we’re looking forward to coaching and collaborating with you):

  • Experience leading, coaching, and growing individuals and managing a high performing software development team in a product development context.
  • A gardener in mind - knows how to seed, grow and nurture - people and code. You have an appetite for helping others learn.

    • An awareness of source to target mapping (and documentation) with CSV, JSON, RDBMS/DW data sources.
    • Process automation with Powershell/Bash/Python or other appropriate scripting languages.
    • Database schema migration and release management approaches.
    • Utilities industry experience is a bonus.

What we offer in return:

  • Personal growth – in leadership, commercial acumen and technical excellence
  • To be part of a global, winning high growth organization – with a career path to match
  • A vibrant, culture full of people passionate about transformation and making a difference -with a one team, collaborative ethos
  • A competitive reward package that truly awards our top talent
  • A chance to make a true impact on society and the planet
