Full job description
About The Role
Your skills. Two different paths.
Every day, RAC technicians help millions of members stay on the move. Whether you enjoy solving problems on the open road or delivering expert servicing and repairs where and when members need them, there's more than one way to build a rewarding career with the RAC.
We're recruiting automotive technicians into two frontline teams:
Roadside Patrol
Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR)
Choose the path that suits you best. Enjoy the structure of planned servicing and repairs through SMR, or the variety, independence and challenge of helping members get moving again as a Roadside Patrol.
Why join the RAC?
✅ Invest in Your Technical Development
Grow your skills through a structured development programme, with hands-on learning, ongoing support and the chance to achieve accreditation through the motor industry's professional body, the IMI.
✅ Everything You Need to Do Your Best Work
From a fully equipped RAC van to specialist tools and technology, you'll have the equipment and support you need to diagnose faults, carry out repairs and help members with confidence from day one.
✅ Be Rewarded for Your Expertise
Earn up to £66,000 OTE depending on role, with opportunities to increase your earnings through bonus and overtime.
✅ Stay Ahead of the Industry
From advanced diagnostics to EV technology, you'll continue developing the skills needed to support today's vehicles and prepare for tomorrow's.
✅ Build a Career with Options
Whether you join Roadside Patrol or SMR, you'll have opportunities to broaden your experience, develop new skills and explore different career paths across the RAC.
✅ Have a Stake in the Journey
Through our Colleague Share Scheme, you'll have the opportunity to share in our success.
Where do your skills thrive?
Roadside Patrol
For technicians who enjoy variety, independence and solving problems in the moment.
- No two days or breakdowns are the same.
- Use your diagnostic skills to get members moving again when they need you most.
- Work independently, make decisions and see the impact of your work first-hand.
- Build specialist roadside expertise through ongoing learning, support and IMI-accredited development.
Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR)
For technicians who enjoy precision, planning and delivering great service.
- Enjoy a structured, pre-booked workload.
- Deliver expert servicing and repairs that help members stay safely on the move.
- Build your technical expertise through ongoing training and development.
- Grow your skills in a supportive environment with opportunities to achieve IMI accreditation.
What you'll need
Either:
✅ At least a Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years' experience
or
✅ 5+ years' experience as a Vehicle Technician or Mechanic
and
✅ A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
Ready to take your skills further?
Whichever route you choose, you'll be joining a team that invests in your development, supports your growth and values your expertise.
From hands-on learning and new technology to IMI accreditation and career progression opportunities, we'll help you continue building the skills that keep Britain moving.
Choose the path that suits you best and build a career that moves you forward too.
