Full job description

This is a full-time Event Sales Executive position based at Muthu Glasgow River Hotel & Spa in Erskine. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and client-focused sales professional responsible for driving Event, MICE, Wedding, and Social Function revenue for the property. The role requires excellent relationship-building skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage event enquiries from initial contact through to conversion. The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams to ensure seamless delivery of events and exceptional guest experiences. The position involves proactive sales activity, participation in networking opportunities, and supporting wider commercial initiatives within the MGM Muthu Hotels UK portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new business for Weddings, Corporate Events, Meetings, Conferences, Banquets, and Social Functions.
  • Respond to event enquiries promptly and professionally, ensuring high conversion rates from enquiry to confirmed booking.
  • Conduct venue show rounds, client meetings, and presentations to showcase the property’s event facilities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with wedding planners, event organisers, corporate clients, suppliers, and local partners.
  • Prepare proposals, quotations, event contracts, function sheets, and payment schedules in line with hotel standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of enquiries, leads, and confirmed business in the CRM and event systems.
  • Track event performance, sales pipeline, and monthly revenue targets.
  • Liaise closely with the events operations and F&B teams to communicate client requirements and ensure event success.
  • Attend wedding fairs, local networking forums, and MICE industry events to promote the hotel.
  • Conduct competitor research on wedding packages, conference pricing, and event offerings in Glasgow and surrounding markets.
  • Contribute to the creation of seasonal promotions, event packages, and marketing campaigns to drive revenue.
  • Support cross-selling opportunities across other MGM Muthu Hotels in Scotland and the UK.
  • Provide clients with full support from enquiry stage through to the handover of event details to operations.
  • Ensure venue setups, menus, packages, and event logistics align with client expectations.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal teams to ensure delivery of high-quality events.
  • Follow up after events to gather feedback and encourage repeat business.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in event sales, wedding coordination, MICE sales, or hotel sales is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of wedding market trends, conference and meeting sales, and social event planning.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple enquiries, deadlines, and event details simultaneously.
  • Proactive attitude with strong attention to detail and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative commercial team.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and event management platforms.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends for events or sales activities.
  • Valid UK driving licence preferred.
  • Degree or formal training in Events, Hospitality, Tourism, Sales, or Marketing is beneficial but not essential.
