Full job description

The Company

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding, specialist technical service and support company primarily focused in the medical diagnostic instrumentation sector. You will work closely with management and contribute to the growth of the business whilst maintaining customer support requirements to a high standard. You will be joining a professional and energetic team totally focused on delivering quality technical services, at an ideal time to establish and develop your role within the business.

The Role

Working within the Field Service Team, you will be responsible for providing high levels of customer support directly on-site, such as resolving technical issues through fault diagnosis and repair, servicing, installing equipment, performing technical adjustment, validation testing and implementing hardware/software updates across a wide range of laboratory automation systems and complex analytical instrumentation. The equipment is highly technical and consists of electrical and electronic systems, fluidics and hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and robotics.

The company provides specialist technical services to medical diagnostic device manufacturers and distributors. Through long term partnerships we provide end-user support and service for diagnostic instrumentation and laboratory automation systems.

You will have your own set of sites to support in your territory, but will also be required to travel to other sites / areas on occasion to ensure customer needs are met.

You will report to the Technical Service Director within a specialist, laboratory diagnostics focused Technical Service and Support company. In this role you will be in a position to support the business by providing first class customer support and technical service on customer sites.

Your Background

To succeed in this exciting role, you must be able to demonstrate a competent background in a service engineering capacity. Applications are encouraged from engineers with similar experience within the industry such as previous engineering roles within NHS Medical Engineering / service departments or a workshop or field based service role with a medical diagnostic equipment manufacturer or supplier. Although any other relevant electronic equipment service & repair experience would be considered.

Basic Requirements

  • The individual must be flexible and able to react to the changing business needs and manage personal workload as per customer and business requirements.
  • The individual will have a strong knowledge and experience of electronic equipment repair and general service engineering, based on previous experience in similar equipment service & repair roles.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, with overnight stays if required. The role is field based and although generally you will cover your own specific geographical area, nationwide travel may be required to assist other team members and / or ensure customer needs are met.
  • Possess Electrical and Electronic Servicing qualifications of at least City & Guilds Level 3 and/or an ONC in electronics servicing, or higher, although all relevant experience will be considered.
  • Be highly technical with an enthusiasm for learning and understanding how complex systems operate and provide a methodical, logical approach to problem solving with a very high degree of attention to detail.
  • Comfortable and competent in the use of service tools and electronic test and measurement equipment.
  • The individual should be self-directed and motivated with the ability to deliver results, along with the enthusiasm to gain new knowledge and take on new challenges.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems in general, windows operating systems, installing and configuring software, file system, network basics, Microsoft Office and computer troubleshooting.
