Teaching Assistant – Reading, Berkshire
Pay Rate: £85–£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, Fixed Term (with opportunity for permanency)
Start Date: January 2026
Age Groups: 4–11, 11–16 or 3–19 years

The Supply Room is seeking enthusiastic, reliable and caring Teaching Assistants to join our client schools across Reading.

This role is perfect for individuals with experience or training in Childcare, Education or Health & Social Care, as well as support workers, tutors, psychology graduates and sports coaches. We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Punctual and dependable
  • Fully available Monday to Friday (8.30am–3.30pm)
  • Committed to a long-term career in education
  • Comfortable supporting children of all abilities
  • Passionate about helping young people learn and grow

This fixed-term position offers a fantastic opportunity to develop hands-on experience within a primary, secondary or specialist school.

For well-suited candidates, there is the potential to progress into a permanent role, gaining long-term professional development and stability.

Responsibilities When Supporting Students With SEND

Teaching Assistants working with pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) play a vital role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 or small-group support
  • Helping pupils access lessons through adapted resources and differentiated activities
  • Supporting students with communication or language needs
  • Encouraging focus, emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Working closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individual education plans

Beyond academic support, you will also be helping pupils build confidence, independence and social skills. This may involve:

  • Supporting sensory needs and using calming strategies
  • Offering emotional reassurance and positive reinforcement
  • Assisting with mobility or personal care where appropriate
  • Helping students develop routines that promote stability and wellbeing
  • Creating a safe, encouraging space where every child feels understood and valued
